Christopher Fowler, author of the wonderful Bryant & May series and all round bloody good bloke, died yesterday.  He'd hoped to finish one last novel but in the end his illness had the last word.  Do seek out his books; they're funny, clever, quirky and endlessly entertaining, like the man himself.

Here's a little bit from the final entry on his blog:

It’s very hard to write now without falling asleep or forgetting what I was going to say. If there’s something I really need to get out I’ll put it on Twitter. So you might want to check your old  @peculiar feed once in a while. All fun things have to come to an end. I love you all. Except for that horrible old troll – are there any other kind?

There, now you have a smidgen of extra time on your hands, go have fun.

…and read a book.

ETA: It would be absolutely lovely if the title of this thread would retain its capitalisation, and not change RIP to Rip.   Changed the title.

Before he wrote the Bryant & May series he also wrote loads of horror novels, and he also did a newspaper column about forgotten authors which also came out as a book; it's certainly worth seeking out. Sad to see him go.
