My friend has an HP 1032 inkjet printer which is 7 years old and has bought a laptop with w10 OS. She has tried to print from the laptop via a wired connection but with no results. She has downloaded the drivers but it still will not print. Could this printer be unable to work with W10?

If she has a wired connection, it should be possible, but M$ do make things difficult, especially in W10/W11. Does the computer show the printer as being connected?

OK - that is strange - so far as I am aware, it should work, as a wired connection shouldn't need any extra drivers, but at 7 years old, maybe it really isn't compatible. What does its (the printers) documentation say it is compatible with, and what was it used with previously?

I have never used HP kit - always been a Canon fan, and I no longer use Windows, but maybe if I tag ,say, @Ghozer - he may be able to offer advice if he pops in.

I have not seen the documents but when I had a look in the devices and printers to look at the printer it said it was w8.1 that it was set too. I thought most printers were just plug and play after the initial set up on a laptop .

Do you know the model number? It may be that HP don't provide the drivers for W10/11 for that machine, although Canon certainly do for my Linux rig, and that is newer than W10.

As i said, Ghozer is probably the best person to ask about this matter.

Uninstall all printer drivers and software - Reboot

Turn on the new printer and then plug in the USB to both the printer then PC/Laptop (listen for the device connected sound)

Windows should pick it up and install the driver, if it connects OK. You may need to download the driver but it's quite rare. Check device manager if there are any problems on this part. Is the printer there but showing problems or an unknown device showing? Let us know if there's a problem and what it says or it's showing as.

Make sure that the selected printer is the new one before you print a test page.

Try those first. If we need to dig a bit deeper, it shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks @zach- I'll leave this in your capable hands - having 'fun' elsewhere at the moment. 😀

I move into film mode now, but I'll be up early to see if it's working for them.
