We recently had a very enjoyable - and affordable - day out on a visit to Wentworth Woodhouse. It's a lovely place, with interesting history, very picturesque grounds that are not too formal and really nice views over the surrounding landscape. The staff there are also very nice, helpful & informative. The entrance fee is usually £11 per adult,  but this was reduced to £7 on the day we went. My friend has a disabled child. - they were admitted for free.  This meant we had a good day out for 2 adults and a child for just £7 - plus the cost of petrol to get there. It was well worth it.

There is food and snacks available, but these are quite costly. We took our own picnic lunch to save on costs, but you would need plenty of money if you want to eat/drink there. After our grand day out, we stopped at one of outside kiosks. We had 2 coffees for the adults and a small tub of ice cream for the little 'un - which came to £11.50!

Wentworth Woodhouse is a great place. The largest frontage in Europe apparently. It's been used in quite a few films. I'm surprised how few people know about it. There's quite an interesting story around the big house, told in the book 'Black Diamonds.'

There's also the huge Wentworth garden centre which is brilliant, with cafes and eateries, and the large Antiques Emporium and crafts centre just up the road. The village is nice too, with a couple of excellent pubs that do meals.

Well worth a day out.

I've been past it a few times nipping through the grounds as a short cut to Greasbrough on my bike and does look a nice place to visit.

I did notice plenty of carparking there and lots of people walking in the grounds between the house and the lakes.

The paths are very wide and I did notice that cyclists are banned but I couldn't see why as cars and walkers are allowed.

It is a lovely cut through to the dismay of the rangers who once chased me in the jeeps but why cycling is banned is a mystery

The volunteers have a huge task in restoring the building.

Thoresby Hall was bought for a considerable sum and many times more was spent in restoring it to its present splendour as an holiday venue.
