Chekhov 464 #1 Posted June 29, 2022 How do you get rid of rats ? Is it actually possible to get rid of them with shop bought poisons ? We have been putting down "Rodex25 Rat Poison, [the] Strongest Available Online" for months and the little sods are eating loads of it, but it doesn't seem to be getting rid of them. In fact they eat so much of it I reckon there's more chance of them dying of indigestion than poisoning..... Rodex25 Whole Wheat Rat Poison | STRONGEST BAIT AVAILABLE | One Dose Rat Killer https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/382611481443?var=652244970237 I may have found some shop bought rat poison that actually does work, see here. With the link to here : https://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/topic/479528-do-shop-bought-rat-poisons-work/page/8/?tab=comments#comment-8654336 SOLUTION: We may have had some success..... I ended up phoning a specialist pest control retailer and they said that Rodex25 worked but needed the rat to feed on it on successive days whereas Vertox25 would usually work with one feed. The retailer was more expensive than E Bay to buy the stuff from but I still used them, for the first batch at any rate, because they gave me the advice and therefore deserved the order. So, having tried Rodex25 for a year or more with no apparent success, we swapped to Vertox25, and within days there was no more sound of rats in the suspended ceiling, and a few days after that the smell of decaying rodent.
 Share this content via...

Buy some traps. But put them where they won’t catch anything else. Poison might work, but if you look around you will notice loads of bait stations and loads of rats. That tells you what you need to know. There probably is a point to carrying on with the poison, it gets transferred from the mother to the young via milk, so that might reduce your problem. Moaning about rats is definitely justified😀 Edited June 29, 2022 by sibon
 Share this content via...
Chekhov 464 #3 Posted June 29, 2022 There is no food source though ! It's a shop and we are always very careful not to leave out any of the small amount of food consumed on the premises. Even any crumbs dropped on the carpet are brushed up immediately and put in the bin. I have asked the neighbouring landlord more than once and he assures me they do not have rats, so what are they eating ? Apart from the poison we put down (maybe they have developed immunity to it)....... Where are they coming from ? We have about five bait stations inside and one outside. What more can we do ! I do not understand it.....
 Share this content via...

They are hit and miss, but I’ve had success with them chasing rats out of a cellar. Not expensive either.
 Share this content via...

Sealing off the access points to that isn't as easy as it sounds unfortunately. I agree with you about the food source, I really do not understand what they are eating, apart from the bait we generously provide....... I might try the ultrasonic repellers. They don't give people headaches do they ? The thing that most worries me is the fire risk from chewed through main cables, plus the fact we have already had one cable which could not be repaired as it was behind a panel somewhere, so that socket no longer works, which is quite inconvenient..... Would a professional pest company do any better ? Can they use stronger poisons ? Has anyone any recommendations ? And how much do they cost ? Leo Tomlinson 51 #6 Posted June 29, 2022 I catch our rats in a cage trap bought on Ebay, I then transport them to waste land a few miles away where foxes and owls hopefully have them for dinner . The little sods are very clever and some times do not go near the cage for a couple of weeks but as soon as a new set of of kids arrive , bingo they are on the way to pastures new . The repellers don’t cause headaches. Mine doesn’t even annoy the dog. There are loads on Amazon around the £20 mark. Worth a read of some of the reviews though. steve68 65 #8 Posted June 29, 2022 (edited) any signs of droppings? have you a positive I.D that it is rats and not something like squirrels, maybe try wildlife camera to see just how infested the shop is, any overgrown land nearby or adjacent to the property. Traps are better for the environment/wildlife, the best option maybe a Cat if you have one or could borrow one.
