The first line of the BBC piece is contrasting to the headline.

Gen Sir Patrick Sanders, who started the job last week, addressed all ranks and civil servants in an internal message on 16 June.

Lets not get our knickers in a twist eh?

What is the significance of it being an “internal” message when it is then leaked or then publicised.

There is absolutely nothing inflammatory in his statement. In fact, it's very realistic and spot on.

There are bad times ahead. Ignoring the fact won't make it disappear

Then. there's this laugher from Boris tacked on to the above referenced article.

"Before Russia's invasion, Prime Minister Boris Johnson told MPs last November that he believed the era of tanks rolling through Europe was behind us.

Challenged over defence spending in light of growing Russian aggression, Mr Johnson said at the time: "We have to recognise that the old concepts of fighting big tank battles on European land mass are over and there are other better things we should be investing in."

He said enhanced air combat systems and cyber strategies were "how warfare in the future is going to be fought... and that is where we need to be".

Weelcome to reality, Boris!  :)

Much as I hate to say Boris is right - he is on this. The Ukrainians have amply demonstrated just how vulnerable tanks are to weapons such as NLAWs. Tanks might have an advantage in wide open plains where people with NLAWs can't get near enough to use them but then they are sitting ducks to A10s and drone based weapons.

The part of that quote you should be focusing on is "We have to recognise that the old concepts of fighting big tank battles on European land mass are over and there are other better things we should be investing in."

Doesn't matter what "better things" you should be investing in, if you're not willing to use them  :)
