There wouldn't have been 5,000 fans on the pitch. The difference is Forest have said they enjoyed the fans celebrations on the pitch, United always prepare to prevent it as much as possible. There were at least a couple of hundred Blades fans on the pitch as soon as the ref blew the final whistle after the Fulham game, despite the fact we were told not too before & during the game.  Anyway, the EFL are considering ground closures next season as punishment for fans coming onto the pitch.  https://www.theguardian.com/football/2022/may/18/efl-clubs-could-face-stadium-closures-for-pitch-invasions-next-season  Don't know how that's going to work? Or who's ground gets closed if the opposition away fans invade a pitch?  I'd be hoping it's the opposition's ground. Edited May 18, 2022 by Baron99
 Share this content via...

I wasn't at the game due to being abroad.  Edited May 18, 2022 by Alextopman
 Share this content via...
top4718   838 #41 Posted May 18, 2022 It was a despicable, cowardly attack on a player who was on the touchline minding his own business, what a moronic way to act after an important win, why would anyone think to do something like that, beggars belief.
 Share this content via...

staninoodle   175 #45 Posted May 19, 2022 Its a security matter, all you can do is plan and do your best to execute amid the frenzy, protect the away fans, players and away sides dugout, get the away team & match officials off the surface asap and into the dressing rooms, clear the surface and let them all go home once the euphoria has died down. Supporters really enjoy getting on to the pitch as its something they rarely get a chance to do and for some that opportunity only comes around a handful of times. You can plan to minimise risk, but thats not easy to execute when youve got thousands entering the field of play, a better way would be to make an announcement to allow fans on, once the field of play is cleared and thereby lower any risk. But I can see the EFL making it the clubs responsibility and coming down heavy with fines and terrace bans to stamp out this old tradition due to the amount of morons that cant or wont control their emotions.
