Struggling With The Cost Of Living?

Yaay gas geyser! Great pic Rockers, reminds me of my nans kitchen on City Road, even down to the curtains 😂. Yeah we had the itchy blankets too with the sheets which were always white with really thin coloured lines on them. Coats on the bed too when visiting relatives with blankets in short supply. Yup, outside bog with a candle to stop it freezing in winter. Tin bath was down cellar and dragged up Sunday night to be filled in the kitchen using the rubber hose off the twin tub washer. Anyone remember the Creda Corvette which replaced the gas geyser? Same idea but electric and made of glass with a siren in the top for when it boiled. Good for making a cuppa or washing the pots.

Yes  .......  we bought a Creda Corvette when we got married in 1974.

When complaining about the cost of living, please spare a thought for Mr. Rishi Sunack..

He and his wife are struggling along on £730 million.

Unfortunately it does not work that way as most commodities are also traded in advance. For instance, we don't get our gas from Russia and yet the wholesale price of our gas and everybody elses gas has risen because of the Russian/Ukraine war. Our gas companies and those in the EU have to import that gas so are at mercy to those increases which I'm sure Putin is well aware of. The same can also be said of the oil we import. Its supply and demand at its finest!

That is what is spurring on inflation and tapping in on company profits would do little to dampen that.

A windfall tax on those companies would only generate around £1.2 billion and do very little to reduce prices. Its estimated that this government will also be richer to the tune of around £3.5b over 2 years because of the higher taxes paid by the sector due to increased prices.

A bit more on it:

https://news.sky.com/story/energy-bills-windfall-taxes-have-been-tried-before-but-could-such-a-move-backfire-12513132#

It's a complicated business.

When gas prices were climbing in the 70s we had the usual hue and cry about the evils of Big Oil.

Enter Trudeau, pseudo socialist. Answer? We'll buy one. Merged a few and it became "PETROCANADA" ta da! You could buy shares.

The slogan was "IT'S YOURS!". 'course, besides their pals, they had to hire somebody who knew how to run it. Enter Mr CEO, paid millions and a nice exit package, from where else?  Big Oil.

History  tells what happened.  Their gas prices never got cheaper that the others, and they ran it into the ground, "YOUR" shares became worthless, and they sold it on at distress prices. Everybody made money and got bonus's except the paying public.

Not the government's fault. They try to give the folks what they demand in return for their votes.

And there's the rub!  :)

Well here is the answer from Rachel Maclean, the safeguarding minister,

Cost of living crisis: Work more hours or get a better job to cope with price rises, minister urges (msn.com)

Last week we had one clown saying you could cook meals for 30p. It must be lovely living in their world with no money worries, high salaries, generous expenses and very generous pensions.

Apparently the Government have blocked Ministers from appearing on Sky News after they had the temerity to ask a Government minister how the people that they govern will cope with the cost of living:

No 10 blocks ministers from Sky News after cost of living ‘gotcha’ interview (telegraph.co.uk)

It's cancel culture from woke snowflakes!

They promise whatever they like in a manifesto to get votes, then once they're in power forget it.

They should be held to account if they don't deliver.

Sell your horses,  sell your shares

We are considering selling 2 of our properties to try to make ends meet.

They can't deliver what they promise. They are not producers. They can only regulate and tax, to try and achieve the outcome demanded by their voters.

Governments can't produce your daily basic needs, shelter, food, clothing, health care, but they can dictate to those who do.

There are many great documentaries on the subect of how fresh, safe, food and produce from all over the world, in all seasons, gets to your table. From GPS computerized high tech farming and land use, to distribution, wholesale and retailing.

The average net profit of major food chains is around 2%. They make their money on volume.

Big Oil and Big Pharma are more complicated, there's an investment in research and developement to ensure a continuing supply of new and innovative products.

But they are all traded publicly, and you can become involved in ownership by just buying one or more shares.

There is no way to determines the efficiency of governments, and they are a monopoly provider of public services.

Would you invest in an enterprise like the government who are technically bankrupt with their unsustainable spiraling National Debt?

The answer is yes, you have no choice, pay your taxes or go to jail.

On first viewing, Martin Lewis does like the measures put into place and says they are close to what he asked for. He does however say these measures were brought forward because of the Sue Gray report, so a  double edged sword, like ive said previously, good for people but obviously brought in now to "hide" the damage from the report.

A money saving tip for you all. I didn't have any washing power this week. So I scratched my head and thought about what I could use.

I used some old dog shampoo. The washing was great.
