Stealing From The Common People .

Recommended Posts

If you want to get angry about land and property stolen from the people you don't have to go back a few hundred years for examples. The last decade has seen massive amount of land owned by the public for the benefit of the public being sold off for a song or just given away for nothing. The most obvious example of this was all the land given away for nothing to those companies that set themselves up as academy/free schools where LEAs were forced to sign over the land deeds wholesale to the directors of the companies set up to run the schools, who immediately sold the school playing fields off to property developers for a nice fat profit.

Or the considerable amount of lands, parks, colleges, social housing and public buildings sold off at substantially low prices at the insistence of the Government or by Councils/NHS Trusts etc disposing of assets to try and keeps services running after another year of funding cuts.

The stealing from the common people is still going on, they just call it something else these days and tell you that you voted for it.

Yes indeed. British history is littered with land grabs (the aristocracy and rich) and  uprisings (the commoners and poor) who had ample cause but were dealt with harshly and publicly with hanging, jail and deportations etc. to act as a warning to others. They say that history is written by the winning side, it's also told by them as well to persuade the proles that such sanctions were just and necessary, and terrify them that wanting justice was not a good idea. Propoganda goes back a very long way.

Peterloo for example (Manchester) was never taught in schools, at least not in my day, nor was the peasants' revolt mentioned, in fact nothing that showed the proles getting the upper hand ever was. Anyone fighting for their rights were automatically against the king and therefore a traitor and dealt with accordingly. The Irish problem was also portarayed as a religious quarrel, when it was caused far more by the land grabs and enclosures by the King's men.

It still goes on. I'm reminded of the utter contempt that is still showered upon contemporory fighters for justice, (Nelson Mandella?) and the 'woke brigade' (such as Occupy) by the media. And incidently, when it's necessary to resort to the law, it is now often beyond the pockets of most ordinary people these days. It also amazes me that though the working classes far outnumber the wealthy the Tories still dominate the UK elections. And we can see the results all around.

Well Anna to some of our compatriots getting a newish people carrier or Chelsea tractor plus a holiday in Benmadena makes them part of the upper classes , The sad part is they forget where they come from and look down on others who get left behind . Maggie Thatcher had it to a T when she brought in the right to buy our social housing ,it created millions of wanabe ten bob millionaires who then voted Tory .

Re: Thatcher selling off social housing: why did no one question the logic of not being allowed to use the money generated to build modern and up to date new social housing to replace the old. Then we wouldn't have half the problems we have today.

And where did all the money go that flooded in when she sold off our Utilities?

Why did no one question the wisdom of allowing our sustaining Utilities into foreign hands?

Probably because those who could have stopped it had a backhander or two. It has been known.

Wouldn't be a bit surprised. I'm sure some Tories would have found ways to get rich out of it.

Selling off our assetts was a big mistake, capitalist short termism at its worst. And responsible for many of the problems we have now.

How do you feel about stealing money from generations yet unborn?

To whit, spiraling, unsustainable National Debt, to get what you demand now,  which you have no intention, or possibility of paying?

I was born after the second world war, but we didn't finish paying back the loans to America until the late 1990's so a fair amount of my tax went towards that. I'm not complaining, a government usually exists by borrowing and loans - always has. But the Conservatives have made a point of making people feel guilty if money is spent on the people.

It's just an excuse  they use to not spend money on the people who pay the taxes. They spend it instead on propping up millionaires and wars.

Austerity wasn't necessary and didn't work. They would have done better to invest in the people and the infrastructure to get the economy going, but the Tories can always find a reason not to invest in the future, and we're the poor saps who believe them. But then they are our elders and betters, born to rule over us. They would never lie to us would they...?
