cuttsie 1,090 #1 Posted April 30, 2022 (edited) The Grand old Duke of Norfolk is to get two and a half million quid for land at Attercliffe stolen from us a few hundred years ago . The law locks up the man or woman that stole a Goose from on the Attercliffe Common . But lets the greater villain loose that stole the Common from the Goose . Annie Bynnol 612 #7 Posted April 30, 2022 In a town I know well the local slave owning Baron in his Castle applied in person to Queen Victoria to take all mineral rights away from landowners and to take all land not claimed or in dispute. She enabled the Act despite legal representation to her. The alcoholic Baron closed all pubs on his acquired land. All the pubs in the town are on a strip of land which was missed in the Act, between the river and the main road.
 Share this content via...

Yes, although the Red Indians might have a slightly different view. Getting rid of the monarchy didn't stop the French invading other countries and building an empire.
 Share this content via...

Laws should not be enforced 50+ years afterwards. If you believe it should, will you be supporting reparations for the slave trade? One of the problems with this country is that for obvious reasons some laws remain in situ long after they have outlived their relevance. In a country run by rich people, for rich people, it's easy to fall back on tradition and heritage as a reason for keeping things the same 'because it's always been done that way...' You're right - we need a (bloodless) revolution to sweep away the cobwebs and keep history where it belongs - in the past. In Britain we've made an art form of living in the past, as if that's some good thing. It's not.
 Share this content via...
