The BBC are a disgrace.

Here are the 7 points from their page "Inflation: Seven reasons the cost of living is going up around the world"

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-59982702

1. Rising energy and petrol prices

2. Goods shortages

3. Shipping costs

4. Rising wages

5. Climate impact

6. Trade barriers

7. The end of pandemic support

Most laughably "Climate impact" is, they say, one of the main drivers of inflation. Is that some kind of joke ? Having said that they are right in a way, we have pretty much stopped generating energy from coal, banned fracking and cut right back on oil investment, so that is actually one of the reasons energy prices are sky rocketing, but is that angle mentioned by the Beeb ? No, apparently a poor coffee harvest in Brazil is more significant.....

But surely at number 1 should be shutting down much of the economy for months on end whilst at the same time pumping billions of pounds into it....... But no, in actual fact the Pandemic is only mentioned in passing within other sub headings, and, most incredibly, they say that withdrawl of Pandemic support is causing inflation, the very opposite of the case as it was all those billions paid to people for being unproductive that is the main driver of all this !

It is so amusing what you choose to take from, what is quite a light, article .... apparently to get your knickers in a twist, once again.

Keep safe out there! 👍

They've also forgotten to mention the rampant quantatitive easing which has poured billions into the economy ever since the economic crash of 2008.

How has the pandemic supposedly put up the cost of living?

These all seem like good reasons why

Thank you Chekhov, took me back in time there 👍

Way back in 1966 Row Bramwell wrote a small 44 page booklet 'Blatant Bias Corporation'

Not sure if it wasn't an underground publication (?) Bought mine from the same guy who used to sell 'Oz' magazine down Chapel walk sometime in the 70's, happy daze 8) .

Once again thank you.

(Found one on't internet for £5 might just treat myself for old times sake) 🧐.

It was not the pandemic per se which has caused inflation, it was the efforts made it limit the economic damage of suppressing the economy for months on end.

Millions of people were stopped from from being productive, and many millions more were made less productive. At the same time literally billions of pounds into the economy stimulating demand, which even worse, could not be satisfied at the time as many of the normal things people spend money on were banned or made very much less appealing (e.g. holidays, and esp foreign holidays).

Then there was the massive amounts spent to try and suppress Covid (e.g. mass testing and tracing) the figures are absolutely eye watering.......

The bill for all of this is here now.....

U.K. Spent £69 Billion Supporting Furloughed Employees

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2021-10-21/u-k-spent-almost-100-billion-supporting-furloughed-employees

The Covid-19 pandemic has resulted in very high levels of public spending. Current estimates of the cost of Government measures announced so far range from about £310 to £410 billion. This is the equivalent of about £4,600 to £6,100 per person in the UK.

I know the spending, i was furloughed myself, my point is, that hasnt come through the other side yet, have a think at what needs to rise because of the pandemic, and what has actually risen, fuel prices for one wasnt due to the pandemic, funnily enough

@melthebell- the fuel/power price rises are totally divorced from the subject discussed here - they are due to increased world demand and, although some will no doubt say I am wrong, profiteering by the major players. The fire at the inter-connector site  (in Essex?) earlier this year, which still hasn't been fully repaired,  won't have helped, either.
