Kidorry   189 #13 Posted April 12, 2022 I don`t give a monkeys for Boris or Sunak getting fined they deserve it, but what about all the ordinary people that were partying at the same time, should they be fined if they could catch them? If you were to go to police today with information about some people in such and such a place having parties during the lockdowns they would almost certainly fob you off as they won't have the time or resources to pursue things like this retrospectively, yet the police CHOSE, when they didn't have to, to pursue the Downing street parties. The MET police are just desperate to repair their damaged reputation after Sarah Everard. Guest sibon   #15 Posted April 12, 2022 I'm fairly sure that Johnson won't come under much pressure from the Tory Party to resign just yet. They'll let him bumble along until May, knowing full well that the local elections are likely to be a bloodbath.  He'll lose his job at that point.  Unless, of course. Sunak decides to resign and spend more time with his tax avoidance advisers. That would be a disaster for Johnson.
 Share this content via...

Anna B   1,401 #19 Posted April 13, 2022 This wasn't some piddling, insignificant rule that they broke.  It was a law. A law that kept families apart, had the dying die alone unable to see their families in their final hours,  the bereaved having to mourn their loss alone without the comfort of family around them, and the most vulnerable not able to understand why their families had deserted them. It was a law which shut down entire industries and businesses, caused job losses, hardship and mental illness, cancelled Weddings and left Funerals unattended. They were unprecidented laws that turned our towns and cities into ghost towns for months and changed our way of life...  Meanwhile, the very people who had designed and brought in these Draconian laws, were whooping it up in Downing Street- the very heart of our government- at parties, laughing and joking at the little people, who had to obey the rules because they were too stupid to realise they were unnecessary, and couldn't do anything else. What a jape.  So not just an insignificant blip, but a measure of the utter contempt this government has for the 'little' people who put them in power.
 Share this content via...
Thorpist   72 #20 Posted April 13, 2022 It is sad state of affairs when the people accept lying self serving duplicitous politicians who openly treat the country with contempt get so much backing from  the electorate. Have the morals in our country sunk so low that the rule of law no longer matters . The actions of our leaders suggest if you  wish ignore the law do so.
 Share this content via...

Well I have never expected  politicians to be honest so am rarely  disappointed by them not being so. Lawyers are expert liars, it is no wonder that many politicians started off in the law,  and as for business folk, where do I start?  Well at least the ‘holier than thou’ brigade can’t accuse me of lying. 😉
 Share this content via...
