florence kat   11 #1 Posted March 5, 2022 I hear of goods being donated and taken by lorry to Poland etc for Ukrainian refugees. Is there a local collection point in Sheffield for clothing and useful things?
 Share this content via...

Hopman   46 #6 Posted March 5, 2022 4 hours ago, Bilge said: Giving money (via the DEC) is probably the best thing we can do:  https://www.dec.org.uk/  Absolutely. It's easier to send money to the crisis areas for the charities already there to buy supplies locally. Loading up a van and driving across Europe, although laudable, means spending money on fuel for the van (and local taxes/duty). The DEC Honorary Treasurer has links to Sheffield. peak4 Â Â 254 #8 Posted March 5, 2022 This is one of the better articles I've seen regarding offering aid. https://yorkshirebylines.co.uk/news/refugees-how-can-we-help/?fbclid=IwAR0Ga7tiU88fH4e5IicAnsPnavjW8sk6Ns3VWMOli9vz3xucaD8Nne0O5eE Â The first link is particularly worth a read too. Kidorry   189 #9 Posted March 6, 2022 I think donating money is the better option because it is instant and the DEC know what to buy and will probably get it a lot cheaper by buying in bulk in the country they are helping.
 Share this content via...
Ms Macbeth   70 #10 Posted March 11, 2022 I agree, money, even a small amount, is more helpful than a pile of old clothes.  Anyone who has ever worked in a charity shop will understand that it takes time and effort to sort through donations, then there will be the cost of transporting whatever is useful, as well as organising the disposal of the rest.
