Supplies For Ukraine?

Recommended Posts

I hear of goods being donated and taken by lorry to Poland etc for Ukrainian refugees.

Is there a local collection point in Sheffield for clothing and useful things?

Giving money (via the DEC) is probably the best thing we can do:

If you wish to donate goods rather than cash then follow this link. They are driving to Poland with as much as possible next week 11th March

Absolutely. It's easier to send money to the crisis areas for the charities already there to buy supplies locally. Loading up a van and driving across Europe, although laudable, means spending money on fuel for the van (and local taxes/duty).

The DEC Honorary Treasurer has links to Sheffield.

I wish I had got a couple of thousand anti tank and anti aircraft weapons to send them.

This is one of the better articles I've seen regarding offering aid.

The first link is particularly worth a read too.

I think donating money is the better option because it is instant and the DEC know what to buy and will probably get it a lot cheaper by buying in bulk in the country they are helping.

I agree, money, even a small amount, is more helpful than a pile of old clothes.  Anyone who has ever worked in a charity shop will understand that it takes time and effort to sort through donations, then there will be the cost of transporting whatever is useful, as well as organising the disposal of the rest.

A flight took off from Stanstead this morning carrying nappies, baby food and bedding... clothing is not the issue, food and things we take for granted everyday.
Toothpaste, sanitary products and baby products.
