Parking In Burngreave.

Recommended Posts

Can anyone tell me when parking restrictions were cancelled around the spital hill, ellesmere road and gower street areas?

Double yellows not only ignored, but now people are double parking blocking one side of the road, backing up traffic and will eventually cause more accidents.

Bus stops are now car parking bays, many pavements almost impassible by a pedestrian let alone pushchairs or wheel chairs.

The small piece of gower street between the small roundabout and the traffic lights onto Burngreave road are often partially blocked on one or both sides and a lot of the people parking illegally and dangerously seem to be taxis.

outside the cafes are the worst, cars and taxis, parking almost on the little roundabout outside the Red Sea cafe, some just pull up, no indication then throw open the cars door often causing people exiting said roundabout to either swerve erratically or brake hard.

something needs to be done, and first thing is get rid of the covid test tent town on the car park on gower street.

Restrictions wont matter there, even if you had machines giving drivers rewards to park properly there it would be a right mess.

There are many ways to avoid spital hill ellesmere gower when traveling that part of sheffield.

You could ask the council's Chief Executive why they are incompetent in the field of parking enforcement.

....

Oh. Sorry. You can't. We are paying her a small fortune to sit at home!

Shush you can’t question that in our more “classy” areas :hihi:

The Wicker, Burngreave, Pitsmoor, Page Hall, Firth Park, Attercliffe, Darnall, London Road and Abbeydale Road all the same…

Hell even the bottom of Fargate is like a car park now with all the delivery drivers for McDonalds. Nothing has been done in the last 18 months…

I do not see your comparisons and there are clearly significant differences between how people park at spital hill.

You look at online maps and spital hill has 23 knife/fork symbols for eating places bussiness. Burngreave rd has 0 such knife/fork symbols while london road has more than 60 but is more than three time as as long as spital hill.

And firthpark is really no comparison to spital hill, busy at times but not as insane. And if people want to use donalds for take away I feel very very sorry for them.

I think it's a misconception that enforcement is specifically less in Spital Hill etc than elsewhere in Sheffield. It's pretty crap all over, but I think there are a few exacerbating factors which make it seem like Spital Hill is worse for this kind of thing;

It is a very narrow thoroughfare for a high street. Even with cars parked correctly there isn't much breathing space. Margins of error are much lower than on streets like Ecclesall Road for example where you also see a lot of delivery drivers park all over restricted spaces, but if their bumper is hanging out it's barely noticeable on what is a relatively wide carriageway.

As Dutch says just above, Spital Hill is full of takeaways and grocers, and the mass of deliveries & delivery drivers coupled with it being narrow is a recipe for disaster. The quantity is such that it means someone, somewhere along the stretch is probably parked up, 'just nipping in'. It's a busy bus route, so equally, at any given moment you are probably going to have a double-decker come up the road. That's probably an argument that there should be more enforcement then elsewhere, but it just brings us back to the first point - there is little-to-no enforcement anywhere.

I think delivery culture is throwing up some issues on our roads (and pavements!) and it's far from just private gig-economy delivery drivers from the 'poor' parts of town. I live in the south-west and I've seen all the likes of Tesco, Sainsburys, DPD etc park like idiots and not give a toss about which other road users or pavement users they get in the way of.

Few years ago , I was sat on a bus coming down Spital Hill  . Bus stopped  in the road. There was a van delivering to one of the grocers who had stopped in the middle of the carriageway, one man emptying the van and he couldn’t care less . Stuck there well over 10 minutes with traffic backing up behind us .

funny thing is if you read the Star or Twitter, you'd think the parking issues/lack of enforcement only occurs in our multi culture-free areas!

But that's because it tends to be middle aged cyclists or middle class mums doing the complaining.

So in summery,  'petty laws' don't seem to apply anywhere or to anyone across the city.

Which in itself is rubbish, because of course they do. But the chance of getting caught is small and potential fines almost meaningless so definitely worth the risk whether its parking on double yellows on Burngreave Road or Sandygate Road!

thats BS for a start, dont see much double parking or cars stopping for no reason in the middle of the road  to chat to an on coming driver, laws are much more vigorously enforced in non ethnic areas fact!! you see plenty of traffic wardens up at meadowhead, woodseats, greenhill ecclesall road etc never seen one on snig hill or gower st area or wolsey road, have a look on fridays to really get a feel for unlawful parking.
