Negotiating to End the Ukraine War Isn’t Appeasement

"As the war in Ukraine grinds through its fourth month, defiant Ukrainians continue to bloody Russian’s invasion force. The United States and its allies are backstopping Ukraine’s staunch defense of its territory through a steady inflow of weapons. The goal, as President Joe Biden put it in a recent essay in the New York Times, is “to work to strengthen Ukraine and support its efforts to achieve a negotiated end to the conflict.”

"A negotiated end to the conflict is the right goal — and one that needs to arrive sooner rather than later".

So you advocate negotiation when that means Ukraine ceding territory but have previously stated that ceding territory encourages the Bear to come back for another bite. Sounds like Catch 22 to me.

I don't think many countries are going to do particularly well this year, most are struggling to emerge from the pandemic and get everything moving properly.

Big supply shortages across many sectors have hiked prices and slowed activity.

Even China aren't looking great, their zero Covid policy has seen massive cities completely shut down.

I advocate that the West recognise the reality that the Totalitarian moved in to Crimea, in 2014,  with no red line drawn then or now. He is holding territory, that is seccesionist and favors Russia.

That war was lost when the U.S. called it "a minor incursion", and refused to confront the Totalitarian. And when the EU became dependent on the Totalitarian's Fossil Fuels, and started trading with the enemy, and still is, financing the Putin's war in Ukraine.

Yes, it is NOW a Catch 22, and the West say the war will go on for years, fought only by the outmanned and outgunned Ukranians.

Right now the political and MSM "narrative", is that the Ukraine is "winning", and as long as they subscribe to that crazy notion, the Ukranian people will continue to suffer the destrction, rape and slaughter, while the complacent and comfortable armchair warriors, give them the bullets, and cheer them on from the sidelines.

Past time for the West to draw some red line, and end this unwinnable war.

The West is living in a World of Totalitarians, and  will either have to confront them militarily, or figure out a way to co-exist with them, as we did since 1945.

I'm advocating that the Ukraine is not the time or the place for this battle.

Enforce a settlement on Zelensky if necessary, and live to fight this war another day, on our terms, at a time of our choosing, when the current crop of failed Western "Leaders" are gone, and real statesmen emerge, as they always do.

More and more serious, and experienced, sober voices are now being raised on these issues.

One thing everybody seems to agree on, is that a negotiated diplomatic settlement, is the only way this war will end. "Sooner or Later".

I'm an advocate of "sooner", rather than "later", while there's still somthing left worth saving.

The West is fiddling, while Ukrainiand are dying.

Disgusting!

The west isn’t fiddling, it’s supplying the artillery to out gun Russia. The Russian horde has settled into its comfort zone of shelling cities to rubble which is the only thing its crap tacticians know how to do. If the Russian artillery is forced back beyond range of Ukraine targets then their infantry and armour will be facing a whole new ball game. We are doing what Ukraine has asked us to do and rightly so. As for enforcing a settlement on Zelensky what does that even mean? We don’t have the legal or moral authority to do anything of the sort. Your “solution” is clearly the abandonment of Ukraine and the appeasement of a dictator and we all know how that’s worked out in the past. The real solution is for the Russians to get the malleting they richly deserve, the cult of the Russian military to be debunked once and for all and Putin and his cronies to be dangling from the lampposts of Moscow.

Good luck with that.

As we thought, China will buy Russian oil, but only at a big discount.

So, Russia is suffering from all these sanctions.

Ukraine war: Russia becomes China's biggest oil supplier

And Chinese companies, including state refining giant Sinopec and state-run Zhenhua Oil, have increased their purchases of Russian crude in recent months after being offered heavy discounts as buyers in Europe and the US shunned Russian energy in line with sanctions over its war on Ukraine.

How long will it take the "enlightened" society of Europe to realize that buying Putin's Fossil Fuel Oil and gas at his inflated prices is a bad idea?

Every barrel of oil they buy from  Russia, finances Putin's War against the hapless Ukrainians.

Call me right wing, but trading with the enemy during a war doesn't make sense to anyone with half a brain!

When will the penny drop?

No one can be under any illusion that 20 odd years of developing trade with Russia has turned into a nightmare that cannot be reversed  overnight.

Fortunately for countries other than Ukraine we are not at war with Russia so we need their resources(not only oil) and they need our money.

Sanctions are a two edged sword.

The concept of supporting strategic industries and carrying strategic stocks seems to be a thing of the past as a result of globalisation.

Serious consequences for Russia too if they try to attack a Nato member. Looks like the master strategist in the Kremlin has put himself between a rock and a hard place.
