No he isn’t trying that stunt yet at all - that’s still in the post.

imagine having a major nuclear power invading an adjacent country that you’ve not let in nato  cos he thinks they’re  gonna join and then letting another adjacent country he didn’t think would - join nato.

im sure that will calm everything down just peachy.

Russias nothing but a big bully, its ironic that they invaded the Ukraine to "stop" the invasion of NATO to surrounding territories and instead, hastened them wanting to join.

Ironic - maybe. dangerous - absolutely.

The retaliation is to do more of what started it in the first place - rightly or wrongly - I can’t see how that is gonna get anything sorted soon.

in fact I think the situation is getting more dangerous by the week.

right or wrong won’t make a difference when we’re all a pile of soot.

Regrettably a sequence of events has been precipitated by Putin .

As far as conventional warfare is concerned NATO and its allies win hands down.

As far as willingness  to escalate to unthinkable levels ,well that is Putins ultimate option.

A face saving solution (for both parties)was found to end the Cuba crisis and we can only hope for the same this time around.

Totally agree - but the face saving solution is nowhere to be seen.

Grim watching indeed Mel but sadly not a total surprise. I think the truth is that Russia is not actually a country anymore, it’s just a cartel under Putin and his mates and like all criminals and gangsters they will use any scumbags to further their aims. On the bright side though the Ukraine seems to be making good use of its new M777 artillery so hopefully the war will be over soon and Russia will get to pay for the damage. I don’t think they will enjoy that as their seized assets don’t even come close to the bill.
