hackey lad 3,937 #2077 Posted April 6, 2022 What does Putin think he is going to gain from this horrific act ? It has already been condemned worldwide . This is Putin who has rubbed shoulders with world leaders who now shun him . Has Putin lost his marbles ? Or is he being wrongly advised on purpose , to make him ripe for a coup d etat ? But as previously posted, I’d be willing to go without a lot for a while, and risk more personally, in indirect support of stopping all fossil fuel imports overnight and isolating Russia North Korea-like until they starve (-just like North Koreans), whilst letting countries’ militaries go into Ukraine ‘on exercises’ on an invitation by that independent and sovereign country. After all, Russian politicians and Putin have acknowledged this independence of Ukraine themselves, both prior to the invasion and since at the UN, and I’m not talking about the LNR/DNR. What is sauce for the goose and all that. It’s a minority sentiment I’m sure. Though clearly, from interviews, testimonies and similar box pops, vastly majoritarian amongst Ukrainians. And still diametrically opposed to your appeasing stance, for sure. No problem with agreeing to disagree. I’m happy to be in your minority. I don’t want to stop anyone from buying whatever from whoever. I’m advocating for people to willingly do without Russian oil and gas, for so long as is required to bring this horror to an end, through economic asphyxiation of Russia (which this stopping would greatly accelerate). With adequate government support in the background, to mitigate the worst macroeconomic effects short-term. I’m OK with paying more for fuel / stuff (that costs more to transport)/drive less / buy less / go cold myself, as a consequence of that choice. And I want my government to know that I’m OK with that, I support it in doing that, I’m not going to punish it at the ballot box next month or next year for that inconvenience, because I understand that needs must here. But I don’t expect everyone to be OK with that. Which is fine, as it’s a free choice, and we’re certainly lucky to not be Russians, North Koreans, Chinese <etc> in that respect. Just so long as enough people are, for the buying countries to at least reduce their purchases pro rata, and substantially enough to matter. 3 hours ago, harvey19 said: Apparently Mr. Putin has an 83% approval rating in Russia. I presume from this the West, Ukraine and Russia are being provided with different media reports of what is happening. This surprises you? Really? People always love who they’re brainwashed to consider a ‘winner’. Makes that winner’s downfall, and that of his cronies, all the more satisfying to watch, when the scales eventually, inevitably, irremediably, fall off peoples’ eyes. The Russian mainstream media (federalTV channels) is, currently, properly baying for Ukrainian blood. That is not an exaggeration. Hundreds more, where that one came from. Cyclecar 24 #2083 Posted April 7, 2022 Putin made his "inner circle" very, very wealthy by way of corruption. And he tucked away a fair chunk fir himself. However, that same inner circle now find themselves in reduced circumstances - assets frozen, yachts seized, etc. And they will stay that way whilst ever Vlad is head of state. I reckon they have lined up the replacement, he (or she....) will be a smiling face and appear very contrite and reasonable.Vlad will take all the blame. But he won't be around to say so, they'll put something in his tea......
 Share this content via...
trastrick 866 #2084 Posted April 7, 2022 17 hours ago, Annie Bynnol said: The American far-right agenda includes supporting Putin in his attack on Western values and therefore his war on the Ukrainians. Whether it is Russian propaganda or far-right Americans, or both, the aim is the same, it to undermine the Ukrainians and support in the west. One often used propaganda technique is to persuade your adversaries that they have lost, to tell their families and friends that they have lost, to undermine their will. Your persistent calls for Ukrainians to surrender is not aimed at them it is to bolster the American far-right, which begs the question why are you sending this propaganda to Britain? Your "far right" boogeyman is not directing the U.S. or European domestic and foreign policy. It's the progressives, socialists, and their "woke" sycophants, and a suppportive Media, who currently hold the reigns of power in the West. As for your "Western Values", it's the socialists Bernie Sanders, Ocasia-Cortez, Marky and other duly elected lawmakers who are most influental in directing U.S. domestic and foreign policy, which in turn, influences the world. They are attacking traditional "Western Values" ("To me, capitalism is irredeemable" - AOC) and in favor of " abolishing U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement,", with the resulting policy chaos at the open borders, as millions of illegal immigrants are allowed (welcomed) in and provided with all the basic neccessities of life. It is currently a continuous flood as one would expect. Their radical Green New Deal Plan, endorsed by Biden, would "fundamentally transform the world’s largest economy". Some of the proposals on energy have already been reflected in U.S. policy, with the resulting fiasco on energy shortages and price increases we see today. (Note: the spiraling record inflation, and energy shortages became a reality when these folks took office, and well before the Russian invasion of Ukraine, in spite of their lame attempts to "blame the Russians" for all their mismanagement) As for who's sending propaganda to Britain? Fake "Russian Collusion" conspiracy theories, pushed by the MSM for 4 years. Including Obama's FBI and CIA Chiefs. More than 50 former intel officials signed a public letter saying they believe the Hunter Biden story has 'all the classic earmarks of a Russian information operation. (16) Nobel economists were dead wrong on inflation: Don’t expect an apology - The Hill "Last September, as the Build Back Better legislation was being considered in Congress, many members worried about the inflationary pressure of injecting an additional $2.4 trillion into the economy on top of the $4.1 trillion committed to the American Rescue Plan and the Cares Act. "When it looked like the Democratic majority might include enough deficit hawks to scuttle the bill, Nobel Laureate economist Joseph Stiglitz rounded up another 16 of the 36 living American Nobel Prize economists to declare, in an open letter, that whatever upward pressure on prices all this new money might bring there was no threat of inflation." Were these "experts" just wrong? Incompetentent? Or is it something more sinister? Could it be propaganda? I will admit that Putin is a bad, very bad dude. All totalitarians are, but "as Stanford economist Paul Romer once stated “a crisis is a terrible thing to waste” – a sentiment echoed by both Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel. :) So it seems, is a ready made boogeyman.
