Its been a very macho council, though it has had its fubding savaged by central Govt, maybe now its a labour/green coalition, it may become a bit more user friendly.

You think the make up of the chamber changes the staff in the call centre?

I couldn't get anywhere so I involved my councillor. I very quickly had a named officer to sort my ct out. Upshot, they owe me nearly £400 but I have to apply for a refund.

Well, thought it might have improved, but three calls, 2 x 50, 1x35 mins, and still can't get through

I too have tried numerous times to get through to the council tax department at SCC  (I haven't had my £150 rebate yet) with no luck  If I owed them £150 they would soon be in touch tho'

I wonder how many people actually man the phones at this department

Oh dear, hasn't anyone else realised?  Like most other Council workers,  they're all still 'working  from home!'

Well, i have another  very urgent issue,  I need to speak to a particular specialist housing unit in the council, just cant get through, i have tried more than 8 times, for 40 mins at atime, then it just gets cut off.

I know SCC is under huge financial pressure, etc, but this is just not right

I involved my local councillor and very quickly got results. Give it a try, email him/her and explain. It's the sort of thing they like to get their into

I made  a complaint to SCC, had a telephone reply, he was very nice, and said  good to complain and they are now taking on more C/S staff as a direct consequence of such ones,

and of course it is a main source of revenue

As above, i wanted to urgently speak to a council tax officer, to try to get new code, so i can pay some arrears, i got cut off six times, speaking to reception, was advised that is normal procedure, as it gets cut off after a certain amount of calls enter the system.

All i can say is SCC please sort this out,  how can we sort out arrears if people cant speak to you.

I would suggest emailing them [with Urgent] or BCc to chief executive, everyone else you know of there.

Or write an old fashioned letter by hand, sending Fao:Top Person [Special Delivery]

Isn't this difficulty in contacting people by phone true of most companies these days?

Trying to write down a problem in an email is not always possible, especially if it's complicated.

It drives me mad.

Once again we're being forced to do it 'their way' whether you like it or not.

No wonder people give up.

There is a book written about it, 'The Silent Company'

they obviously want you to do it all online

I am waiting to hear from Housing Solutions, 2 week since asked for call back

waiting time is 1 hr 40ms, thats longer then mobile packages allow before charging!
