Yorkshireman's Arms, Burgess St. - Gone.

The council compulsory purchased the Yorkshireman along with many other buildings in the area as part of the "Heart of the City" regeneration and redevelopment programme. The CPOs in the area were a few years ago now and places like the Yorkshireman and Henry's were rented out to operators on a short term basis until redevelopment was due to begin. This is phase 2 of the current wave of development.

Generally it should be positive in terms of improving the City Centre and breathing life back into some neglected parts, however it is sad to see only token gestures being made to heritage and history, generally with in many cases facades being kept but the actual building being demolished.

Its gonna look great when its finished

People would rather it didnt happen to save a pub that they havent be bothered to go in for over 20 years

And theyve spent a lot of time and money to conserve the Issacs building

So the council saying they found out it was structurally  unsafe , was not the truth ?

My reading was it was due to come down anyway but due to structural issues its had to come down earlier than anticipated.

Not quite - some hippies squatted in there for a few months, either before or after they squatted in tents outside the Cathedral for a few months too.

I don't think anyone can?  I'm sure it's a listed building due to the unique architecture.

They probably squatted for one night and then went back to their big houses in Dore
