Millhouses Park Boating Lake

Recommended Posts

I was in the park yesterday and was surprised to find the the boating lake has been drained. I cannot in my 79 years recall seeing it empty before although I suppose it must have been from time to time. Yesterday kids were running all over the amazing red brick bottom and someone remarked that it would be a good thing to put a little water back in so it freezes to make a safe skating rink.  Follow it up Parks Department?  Or too many elf and safety issues?

I recall in the 70's as a teenager it was a very good unofficial skating rink when it froze over enough even though it was full. A couple of friends and I made a very rude word on the surface one night using blocks of ice. It didn't melt for ages dues to the weather.

Took my granddaughter on Sunday then text my son telling him she'd actually walked across the middle of the boating lake.

It is usually drained every couple of years for cleaning since Pullins took over running the paddle boats.

very intresting reading ,i know mr  pullin as he was our councillor for many years ,he told me it was drained every 2-3 years ,but he also told me the fisheries always checked as well ,as birds drop fish ,people dispose of fish and he told me how intresting it was ,up to a few years ago he used to get in the water with his waders on and push the toddler boat area,he is a incredible person, lead a very varied life including a judge.yes nice man, also was one of the top funfair people in the past.

we difinitely need to bring the Lido back, or some sort of outdoor swimming venue.

Using technology, it could be used all year round.

We've been going regularly for a good few years now. Walk round the park - parkrun on a Saturday morning - coffee and food in the cafe. This time of year it's not at it's best - but where is? From Spring, every time you go it's different and the gardeners and Friends of Millhouses Park put massive efforts in to making it look great. It's really well used and visited. It's a lovely place, in our opinion of course.
