Ancestry Help Please?

Recommended Posts

Hi so I have joined on the 14 day trial and searching for a relative I believe is still alive and in Sheffield

My first question is there only ancestry I can join?

There are a lot of people with same name how do I get more details?

Hoping you helpful people can help thanks

It is useful if you know dates of birth. Where people were born. Any relatives you my know of. There are other ancestry sites eg. My Heritage.  Find My Past. To name two. My Heritage also offer a 14 day trial. It may be a good idea to wait until January when the 1921 Census become available

Good luck

Hello Jennycakes.

Plenty of other sites, offering 14 day free trials or similar.

Doing your homework first is the biggest advice I can give.

Ancestry sites aren't everything. (Try a simple internet search on your family name).

The knowledge you already have will give you the questions you need answering.

Write it down, then - Don't waste a minute of the 14 days (& cancel in plenty of time).

(then move on to the next free trial )

In theory it would be nice if a simple search on a free trial gave all the answers straight away,

unfortunately that's not always the case, but keep at it.

So there you go, ask as many relatives as you can first (old next door neighbours etc, etc, etc).

Have those questions ready and enjoy the journey.

Took me two years, but well worth it.

Keep safe 8).

Hi jennycakes. Loads of things you can try which might help find some info. In addition to those already mentioned:-

BMD - Birth. Death. Marriage. Records

Burial records

Roots Point UK - Census 1841 - 1901

Sheffield Directories  - find on Sheffield Indexers

The 1939 Register - best on Find My Past - Who lived in my house 1939   Ok Good Luck

I just had an email from Ancestry offering me a years premium membership for half price if I renew my membership by the 8th January. I didn't renew last year as there was no offer so might take it back on this year.
