Call me negative, but didn’t the last private sector partnership with Sheffield Council on that site end in tears? Manchester and Leeds were mentioned, both are cities that understand business, unlike the Socialist Republic of Sheffield.

I don’t mean to knock the OP’s positivity, but sadly it is misplaced.

Who owned the land and granted the necessary permissions?

Budge Mining owned the land.

Now are you saying the council should have blocked it being developed ?

Sheffield is way too late to jump on this bandwagon.  Manchester (Salford) and Leeds have got it sewn up, and there's a new studio going up in Liverpool as well.

All you'll get with Sheffield is another failed project, like the National Centre for Pop Music (which now is doing brilliant in Liverpool).

Screen Yorkshire's HQ is in Leeds.  I'd argue that's far more central than Sheffield, especially for good transport links.

No, why do you imply this?

Yeah. we could make films here.

How about a film about the effects of a nuclear bomb going off and how people would survive in the aftermath.

Or more light heartedly, what about a bunch of out of work lads desperate for a few quid who decide to strip on stage with hilarious consequences.

If either of these films ever get made I'll be claiming royalties.

Oh, hang on, what about a group of lads from Page Hall who plan to bomb the London Marathon ?
