Roll On January 1st.

Xmas over hype drives me mad,  same old crappy Xmas songs played over and over again, Slushy repeated Xmas ads, mayhem in supermarkets,  I think Xmas is for Kids not for grown ups who act like kids.

Self-isolating cuts out a lot of the hype.  and i agree most of it is hype -  only venture out very early and never at busiest times, mute the ads or watch bbc 1 or 2 or record to fast forward any ads.

I prefer Xmas carols to pop tunes

The nights already are a little lighter on January 1st. I do prefer January to December.

Normality after the silly madness is what I was referring to,  but your right the nights do start to get lighter another plus.

I know what you mean, although my wife does the donkey work, I still get dragged into it all.  We've already spent a small fortune on Xmas cards, mostly for people I barely know & it's, "We need different cards for X, Y & Z L, because they all know each other & if we buy a box of a dozen cards, they'll know.". Ahhhhhhggghhh!

And tell me when it became impossible to have proper Xmas in this country without, all of a sudden, it being 'mandatory requirement' to have a Stollen & Panettone on the Xmas table?

Do mean filtering out the negatives as in constant slushy ads, same year in year out Xmas songs like Slade, Wizzard ect and grown ups acting like big kids and people over eating like greedy pigs. . :hihi:

I don't like all that -  I don't enjoy repetitive  playing of same songs either and as for watching people eat - I avert it all.

I agree with what you say. Christmas is too commercialised now.  I told my relatives some years ago, that I wouldn’t be buying them anymore Christmas presents. They all said how relieved they were.! Now in January we will be seeing Easter eggs in the shops !

Despite you being an Owls supporter bassett, I agree with you on this one.

Samuel Johnson famously said 'when a man is tired of London, he is tired of life'. The same could be said about Christmas.

Both London and Christmas have many pros and cons, but where would we be without them?

Certainly Christmas has become too commercialised and its true meaning subjugated in the pursuit of profits but, for many folks it's still a joyous celebration in the midst of winter. A time of goodwill and surely something to be enjoyed and treasured.

I'm approaching Christmas number 77 and I hope it's as memorable for me as those in the past and as magical for my grandkids as those I remember as a child. Hopefully there'll be many more to come!

echo.
