You need no experience of traffic flow modelling to know when it's been done badly, but...

... you need a level of competence to ensure that these problems don't happen in the first place! :|

Or maybe to understand that traffic can be managed to a reasonable level, but that there is a limit to what can be acheived given finite resources of money and space, and that the best that can be done given those limits is what has been done.

Anyhow, I'll wait until smithy266 has thought outside the box and then we can all look forward to a traffic free visit to the shops.

Maybe the council should look at extending the CAZ as far as Dronfield...

... that should do the trick! :hihi:

I imagine they could put as much design effort in as humanly possible, and still not get around the hard fact that there are more cars than road space.

You mean a five thousand seater stadium that will only be used every other Saturday and will not have a crowd of five thousand likely attend every week?

no read the sign outside the new ground area,it states events as in bands,a club cannot exsist on a five-700 crowd for say 20 weeks a year,so you build a 5 thousand seater stadium to make up the short fall of monies,as it states the stadium/site will be used for events, ie bands, singers, funfairs ect,ect plus thers the origanal sports ground, plus the visitor centre of the history of football,

I'm interested to know exactly how much differently you'd design it? I mean, it's a pretty standard design - the only argument as per the OP is that you might make the right-turn lane longer to help keep the queue out of the two other lanes, but that would involve moving/changing the pedestrian crossing facilities there.

People often look at traffic and assume it must be the fault of design - and don't get me wrong, some designs aren't quite right - but it's hard to know what people expect when you build a retail park + 100s parking spaces just near an already congested roundabout/ring-road...

Would have thought it would be better with a roundabout at the end of the access road as traffic coming out stops traffic entering regulary.

possibly a slip road at the top end and a slip road exit at the bottom.

Also cars doing a u turn holds up traffic and is dagerous

yes theres at least 1 doing a u turn every time the lights change and some idiots getting into the entry road then turning back, should be banned from doing that, but who mans it? its fine putting in rules but if theres ,threat of a fine ect ,its pointless

One road in and out of a place is never a good policy, you'd think they'd have learnt that by now.

Morrisons and Sainsburys seem to manage quite well in close proximity to Hillsborough.
