Computer Repair Shop?

Recommended Posts

Anyone know of anywhere to take a PC to be repaired/checked over please?

My son has got a new PC case and has swapped all the internal components from his PC over to the new case, but now there's no output from the graphics card.

Are there any specialists in Sheffield who we could take it to please?

If it's just a parts swap and the motherboard LEDs come on. (PC has power)

Check Graphics card is fully in the slot and power leads are in properly (if it has them)

Some cases have a mounting screw that should be removed as the board has a locating peg. Remove the standoff and refit the motherboad. The case standoffs should be possitioned for the type of board ATX, mATX, mini ITX etc.

Check and double check the front panel header wires.

A few quick checks to get you started. Without seeing it, it's hard to diagnose properly.

A bit more info on what/how he did the swap would help. And as suggested, ask the mods to move the thread to the computer section.

Thanks very much, I shall discuss the above with him.

And yes, this does need moving to the correct section.

No problem.

A bit of guesswork ATM, but with a parts to case swap, it's usually something simple/overlooked.

Let us know how he gets on.

Will do, I shall perhaps phone Easy Tech tomorrow and see if they will let me take it to them to look at.

What I miss are the places you could just walk in with your computer and get some advice.  There was Jonathon Frost and you could just go to the workshop and get some advice, now you have to leave your computer at a pick up point with a note what is wrong and pay for it when you pick it up, then there was the shop on London road you could do the same and also the lads near Howarsd Street, Both gone. I tried phoning the one at Cartmel Road. No answer on the home phone and no answer on the mobile.

Thanks Mister M, I phoned EasyTech this morning who said I could take it straight in to them, so I dropped it off around 11am and at 3pm they phoned me to say they had it all working, so I went back and collected it. Turned out my lad hadn't seated the graphics card into the motherboard correctly and some of the pins had become misaligned. They seated it correctly and fitted a few screws that were missing, and gave things a clean inside.

All working now, and my son is very pleased to get it back the same day . Great service from EasyTech.

I thought It would be something fairly simple.

He's a lad, probably wanted his new case filled and working ASAP. A virtual clip round the ear from Dad for leaving screws out...that's just lazy! 😄

Glad it's sorted, and hopefully didn't cost 'bank of dad' too much.
