A fellow Congolese picks up parcels and packages from families all over Sheffield and I surmise they are put in a shipping container and sent on their merry way, the send broken TVs , broken cycles , beds, clothes, shoes anything they can scrounge out of bins is parcelled up and sent to be sold on in The Congo and when I say “ parcel “ I mean they are around five feet tall and around ten feet in circumference, I do have photos.

There is a bloke who goes around scrap car yards taking out all the engines , he does not pay much for em as most are non runners , he then loads a container up with them and sends them to Africa , he makes good money and he earns it as its a mucky heavy job .

Today is International day for the Eradication of poverty apparently.

According to 'Sunday Morning Live' (BBC1 ) 20 - 25% of people in the UK are living in poverty. This group includes people in full time work, people out of work, people in debt, those  with disabilities, the carers of others,  and those no longer 'just about managing.' More and more people are going to get sucked into this group.

Rents and bills are rising, food prices are going up, inflation is taking off, homelessness is set to rise massively with the withdrawal of £20 Universal Credit, fuel poverty is going to be a big problem this winter with many people having to choose between heating and eating etc.

We are supposed to be a rich country. I think this is unacceptable and something must be done. But what?

Your views?

Unfortunately, nothing will be done now or in the future, just like the past thousands of  years. There as always been poverty and always will be. The capitalist system that the whole world revolves around is designed to help the rich get richer and poor get poorer. The rich and those in power take advantage of the system, the weak, disabled and less educated people will always suffer.

You will always get politicians saying they want to help and eradicate poverty, but they are empty words that they know can't be fulfilled....

Poverty and suffering is here to stay

You may be right, but it is actually now in everyone's interest to even things up, especially with regards to climate change. Maybe that is the catalyst that will finally get everybody working together even if it starts out of pure self-interest.

Remember the Western modernised countries are the one's most responsible for pollution and carbon emmisions, they have by far the largest carbon footprint, so they are the one's who have to make the most change. And we have to support third world countries to be able to follow suit.

The irony is that there is enough for all and no need to fight over scraps. The world is becoming more aware of this and has to do something about it. Rampant Consumerism and Capitalism will have to become a thing of the past. We can't continue with none stop growth on a finite planet with finite resources. That would be suicide.

You are right... We are committing suicide...

But unfortunately the future of this planet is plain to see, there are too many arrogant, selfish, uncaring and blind people in power and business that only think about themselves.

Even millions of the general public don't care and unless you have the support from every single person on the planet it would be more or less impossible to stop climate change.

Well let's see what Cop 26 comes up with.

I'm hoping we will be able to move forward for the benefit of the planet, and therefore everyone.

It's not going to be painless, and it's not going to be cheap, and we have more to lose than most, but the sooner people accept that we have to change, the better.
