Mercedes R129 Sl Owners (1990 - 1999 Models)

Hi - just joined the forum and am looking to see if  there are any other R129 owners out there?  I have a 1990 SL R129 - 3000 24 (ie the 3 litre straight 6 engine with 24 valves!).  Its great when its running, and not so when its not!  

 

I currently have an intermittent problem with the ignition - in that some times it works fine, and other times it doesn't, which makes going out in the car a bit of a lottery!!  Especially if you want to stop somewhere en route!!  

 

So any other owners out there who may have insights (or just plain sympathy) please do not hesitate to come forward!!

Does the car have an OBD socket ?

If so could try plugging a code reader in and see what it reveals.
