Will we be expecting the head of the NHS to be resigning, like what happened with the police force?

I'm not sure what the reaction will be if she's found guilty but if she is then clearly better vetting procedures need to be introduced to protect patients from the dodgy ones.

We clearly cannot predict who will turn out to be murderers in 10/20 years time. If we could say with a 75% certainty, which jobs should they do? Give them the Prime Ministers job, the PM can kill thousands and no one cares.

There are bad people in every sector of society, they are normally brought to book after their ‘badness’ has reached boiling point. It’s just a pity that the high and mighty who appear to be ‘experts’ on human infallibility can’t move their ‘expertise’ to before the event.

It's a very fair question because we seem to have a mass murdering nurse with depressing frequency.

But it would be like asking Jesus Christ to resign, so no.

Oh dear. There's enough of a bullying culture among NHS management already without bringing army 'discipline' into it. The most helpful change would be to change the culture of most NHS Trust management teams - at the moment, if patients raise concerns, the response is too often a defensive one where the Trust's management goes into damage limitation mode rather than trying to understand what's gone wrong. A number of people have pointed out the contrast with the aviation industry, where if something goes wrong the primary focus is on learning from it. Hence after Morecambe Bay we still got Telford & Shrewsbury because lessons were not learned, and then Nottingham.
