Have people noticed over the past couple of years the concrete structure on the river Loxley just above the Loxley sheltered housing and adjacent to Mill dam? This was built a couple of years ago and was supposed to be regulated by both LA planning and the Environment Agency  who issued an abstraction licence to ensure the weir continued to flow and as it said in The Sheffield Star, the weir pool would remain untouched. In fact the weir pool has been largely filled in and the turbine runs even when there is almost no water over the weir. The destruction of the environment doesnt usually happen in one event,it is incremental usually. This seems a good example where doing nothing seems to have resulted in very considerable detriment to the environment and either no action or very little by the authorities. As an eyesore it ranks very highly in this formerly beautiful spot. The top of the weir has been extended with a metal contraption which helps rubbish to gather unmoved because of lack of flow.Wonderful idea.

Have you raised these issues with the planning department and/or environmental department of the council?
