Hahahaha.  You don't seriously think the incompetent bureaucrats at our council want us plebs driving into the city centre do you?

No no no.  Did you not get the memo?   We are all being forced to be cycling and walking.   It's all part of their wonderful "connecting Sheffield" scam, err, sorry I meant scheme.

The football club will make next to no difference to the traffic.

As for the rest - whose community / neighbourhood do you think should be demolished to save people (mainly from Dronfield?) about 5 minutes on their commute?

Many years ago there was a hush-hush behind-closed-doors plan to extend Supertram to Chesterfield by going on Chesterfield Road.  This plan involved the compulsory purchase of a number of residences on that road.  It was thwarted by somebody getting their hands on the plans, copying them  and dropping them through letterboxes.  The resultant stink stopped the plan dead.

There is plenty of traffic on Chesterfield Road as it is, especially as it is the through road to the south, Dronfield and Chesterfield, as well as to Morrisons and the new St James Retail Park.

I do think that the plan to use the old Transport grounds at Norton Roundabout as a football stadium will inevitably cause more traffic (how else are the thousands planned for plan to get there ?!).

Do the planners care?  Perhaps they are just getting their own back?   Do they think that if they gridlock the main route into the City from the South people will rise up and demand a Supertram link?  Who knows?

A bypass was proposed in the 70s to deal with the Woodseats traffic problem!

The shop owners on Woodseats got this proposition turned down, saying they would lose the passing trade.

The gridlock is caused by cars, too many of them, trying to fit through Woodseats. You can point fingers wherever, but the fact remains, there are too many cars to fit on the current roads, and there is no room for more roads to Meadowhead.

A Supertram route to Meadowhead via Woodseats would alleviate some of the traffic, but enough to make a difference, no idea. Where would you run a Supertram route to Meadowhead without compulsory purchase, no idea.

A road on stilts over lots of peoples houses, not happening ever. No room to do it and no way it would be tolerated. Would you want to live in a house with a dual carriageway above, belching fumes and noise everywhere?

Until people can accept the fact that some personal effort is required to reduce car usage then nothing will change.
