I really wish I had seen the original performance on stage at The Lyceum theatre, which got fantastic reviews. However I will try and see it in the cinema just to see scenes of Sheffield and to hear the Yorkshire accent.

Didn't see it on stage so nothing to compare with.... I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Loved Richard E Grant's performance and also though the acceptance of Jamie by his family and friends was nicely done... except his dad of course...

The rotten tomatoes website gives Jamie 77% and the audience score is 72%.

Personally am no big fan of that website and my preferences can be very much out of line with their scores but in this case would have given it 70% myself. Loved the musical stage performance. 

 

Making of everyone talking about jamie must have been a very big challenge. It is modern, a brand new attempt at something completely different. At times I had the feeling I was watching an artists gallery rather than just some new film.

I can remember them filming Jamie and pals dancing through the streets in Summer on a council estate in Sheffield. This was before Covid but I often wonder which estate it was. The sun was shining and everyone was happy and laughing.

It was on Deerlands Avenue, Parson Cross.

Not really a spoiler but right at the end of the film there is some footage of the real Jamie (Campbell), 

and a simple google search will provide further info.

I'd no idea apart from knowing there had been a film made in Sheffield.

Always hard to predict what's going to be the better, the Book, the Play or the Film.

There is never given that the book is going to be better than the film or vise versa.

I would imagine the play is most flamboyant.

 

Same as Dutch. Rotten Tomato's is only good as those putting into it, if their all (amateur) experts your

not going to get an unbiased man in the street (sorry - or Ladies) perspective.  

 

not as good as 'Kinky Boots' but worth watching.

I couldn't quite work it out & my knowledge of Sheff  is pretty good.

Getting a bit like the game show contestants "it's not in my age group" answer to a question they don't know.

Is general knowledge limited to only after you were born?

 

Are Films out of your usual choosing not worth watching?

 

We've just watched a film that was HTSBO's choice.

It wouldn't have been mine, but what a film.

Great post! Yes I understand that attitudes should be challenged and I have stumbled across good films.
