Proposal To Turn The Former Debenhams Store Into A High Street Hospital

Recommended Posts

Apparently their is a plan to turn the former Debenhams store on the Moor into a hospital.

Do you think such an idea would work ?

Good or bad location?

Parking?

Would a former department store building be easy to convert into a hospital given the layout .

Interesting idea never heard of a plan like this before.

I propose no council tax for Sheffield!

As I understand, there has been no noise from NHS or private companies about this, just developers.

Also, bet that building is full of asbestos.

Been a 1950s building asbestos is very likely and expensive to remove.

Who would want to take this on then? Bulldozed or apartments/retail.

It's a very interesting idea.

As waiting lists are so high extra space in quick order could be an answer.

It's a pie in the sky idea put forward by some think tank that has got recognition. The reality is that the store was purchased in March and the staff were told by the new owners that there are plans to convert the building into a mix of retail and hospitality, including a roof terrace bar, a restaurant in the basement and retail units on the different floors.

It won't be a hospital. It probably won't be a mix of retail and hospitality either.

Probs best to flatten the place and build new.

The cost of conversion and regeneration will be high, further exacerbated if the council and public start sticking their oars in over how or what should be done with the building.
