No he hasn't. He has 28000 people clicking some online form as a pathetic lazy protest about what they determine is a "ban on free speech" or "political correctness gone mad" or a load of "woke nonsense".

 

Real fans buy tickets. They go to the gigs. They travel to see their favourite artists.

 

As others have pointed out, the numbers of genuine fans i.e. those being given a refund are a world apart from the number of slacktivists online clicking some petition.

To be fair, that's 300 tickets sold in advance of a gig that wasn't until next year. It's quite obvious that previously sales have been high enough to return a profit for both him and the city hall, so suggesting only 300 people were actually going to turn up to the gig is bobbins. I'm not especially a fan, just pointing things out amongst the hyperbole.

The point is that a real fans will travel to see him so him losing out a Sheffield venue shouldn't be a problem they just go somewhere else. If they like his act that much they will put the effort in. They would have also been included in those early purchases, knowing that if he is so popular, as it is claimed to be, there would have been a real risk of him selling out.  

 

Morons clicking some link on the internet and creating a load of hot air about wokeness and political correctness and free speech are not doing any of the above. They are just using it to some bandwagon to further their own agenda.

I tend to agree that an online petition is highly unlikely to make a difference. It does give people a chance to register their views.

At the end of the day, this whole episode has brought Sheffield to the attention of the Media as a City where intolerance of those who hold different views of comedy to their own. To some people his style of comedy may seem outdated particularly if they are not aware of his more recent material. His comedy has continually evolved over the years, I saw him in the 1970's and none of that material would be used in a current show. The show was scheduled for next year so 300 refunds at this early stage is actually quite a good uptake. Be sure of this, the venue would have been full, but that is all academic now. His fans will now visit another city and spend their cash there. All this for a show that nobody would have been forced to attend and would have brought happiness to local people as well as those silly enough to attend this horrible city.

You really are dim, you don't have to be a fan of the act to not want to be told what you can and can't do by pathetic unelectable Labour politicians, its more about freedom of choice and railing against hypocrisy, up to know they are letting Jimmy Carr and the Dreamboys events take place, hardly acts that fit in with venues "values".

 

Over 30,000 have signed the petition now and well done to Shaffaq Mohammed for raising the issue.

 

Some of you loonies are obsessed with wanting the government/politicians  to tell you what to think.

Excellent post, Sheffield already gets overlooked in favour of Nottingham and Leeds for acts, this will just make tour promoters even less likely to book Sheffield venues, unfortunately the virtue signallers can't see past the ends of their noses and will be the first to squeal when we lose these already struggling places.
