OK ,Not just Sheffield football but a World wide problem , more and more players are going down with memory loss due to heading the ball , At least three have stated that they are suffering from the condition this month , Some have died with the condition .

So is it time to stop heading the ball , how would it change the game ,would it mean more skill needed on the actual playing the ball to the feet or is it just a case of carry on and its bad luck if a player gets the condition .

Rubbish.

The balls used today are no where like the old hard rubber footballs of the  50s, 60s, 70s -they have improved massively and and are much lighter.

You can see now it's all about trajectory and motion of the ball- better technology used and less heavy.

So do you think that today’s players have less chance of getting dementia caused by heading the ball ?

There's loads of dementia sufferers who have never headed a ball in their lives.

And so what?

There's loads of people with lung disease who never worked with asbestos, so by your wrong logic, we should keep using asbestos.

Have they lung disease by doing something else?life’s full of risks, some slight some heavy, playing football doesn’t give you dementia, why don’t you ban everything then we’ll all be safe.

Well, we won't know until maybe 30 years after the player has retired..but I'd like to think it won't be as apparent compared to older generation.

Yes, they are lung disease sufferers from related to asbestos, and not related. We have banned the use of asbestos.

Yes, there are dementia sufferers related to heading a ball, and to not heading a ball. You are arguing to say we shouldn't ban heading because other people might get dementia from other causes, which makes no sense as a logical argument.

In fact, nobody is looking to ban heading, there is a suggestion to restrict the number of heavy headers in training.

Your statement about why not ban everything then we'll all be safe....you know it's possible to have a middle ground, you know, where we do something to reduce the severity of hazard, or reduce its frequency by safety measures. Like boxers wearing headguards in training, like having seatbelts in a car, like limiting exposure to industrial hazards. Not banning, just mitigating. Happens all the time in all working environments.

As long as the old balls are dry and not weighed down with mud, they weigh exactly the same as the new ones.

The new ones are more aerodynamic and can come in far quicker. They'll still do damage, as will be shown in years to come.

Not having a pop (honestly!) but I reckon it will be more apparent. Today's footballers - and the recent past (post Wenger really) - didn't finish training with pie and chips, a couple of beers and a half a pack of smokes like those in the years before. Alot of ex-players are still in great shape and dementia will stick out like a sore thumb.

A better way of looking at might be there are loads of footballers that have headed a football who haven't gone on to get dementia.

No, it wouldn't. We didn't wear seat belts in cars in the past. Not everyone smashed their head through the windscreen, but some did, so now we all wear them, because even though the likelihood is low, the consequences are life changing.
