Well it all started with bonking folk on their heads with rocks, then came clubs, steel cutting weapons and we’ve now ‘progressed’ to automatic weapons. We can try to control ownership, punish illegal usage and even kill users, however we will never get rid of weapon ownership.

Tongue in cheek the old Russians invading the US through Canada rubbish. Even with different rules on how and who can purchase guns in Canada the Canadians would put up as good a fight (if not better) than that in the Ukraine.

 but totally agree with you over Putin ( but promise not to let it happen too often  ), there can't be many who aren't surprised he hasn't been taken out by his own already, the guys a dangerous embarrassment.

Well wouldn't the simplest idea to take the decision away from the US politicians & hand it directly to the US population to decide by having a referendum on personal gun ownership?

Why is that? Who needs a gun?

 

Well it depends on where you live.If you live around grizzly bears and cougars, or if you live in a major U.S. City.

 

Where they saw the complete destruction, arson and looting of law abiding businesses and terrorized Mom and Pop neighborhood stores,  that took place, in the last series of riots that affected 200 major U.S. Cities, in the last couple of years, and in some cases, even reached the suburbs.

80% of homicides in the US are carried out using a firearm. It seems that guns do indeed kill people. 

 

It is way beyond time that the US introduced stricter gun controls. I appreciate that not a firearms can be removed, but surely restrictions can be used to prevent the lunatic fringe from wandering around with semi automatic weapons. 

 

If a suppresionist is someone who wishes to prevent mass shootings in schools,  let me be that suppressionist.

You're not getting away with your usual 'blame the libs' shtick this time.

 

The 'funded' police stood outside the school whilst the gunman went on his 40 minute rampage inside murdering those 19 kids and their 2 teachers. They did nothing to protect the victims. They did ask the parents of the murdered kids for DNA samples so they could identify which of the lumps of blood and gore left were their children though.

 

"Defund the police" was never about just taking money from the police so they can't spend it living out their paramilitary fantasies. It was instead about spending it on services that, due to lack of funding in other areas, fall on the untrained police to provide by default. One glaring example is mental health provision. The US police aren't trained to deal with people suffering from mental health crises and frequently it ends with the ill person being shot despite them posing no threat to anyone but themselves.

 

Maybe if they'd defunded the police by taking some of the money they spend on their toys and used it to provide publicly funded mental health services they'd have identified the gunman as a risk, provided appropriate treatment and avoided 21 corpses in a school yesterday.

Had the killer not had access to firearms he would very likely have found an alternative, the kids and their teachers are dead, we can pontificate on this awful mass murder until the cows come home, but they remain dead. What I would like to see is everything that is known of the killer, and what fears, (if any) people known to him had of him.

They do that after every mass shooting, the problem is they don't do anything to address the issues that cause some people to go on a rampage in the first place.

 

Mass shootings -> people scared -> more gun sales -> profit! So the industry funded gun lobby makes sure no effective action takes place to reduce mass shootings.

I have experience of wannabe bullies whilst dog walking in the Peak Park, targeting yours truly for their pleasure, however they all found that they had made a mistake. What I wondered is what the outcome might had been had they been carrying any type of weapons.
