gluedtopc 10 #1 Posted August 11, 2021 We are in the process of buying a house. I have just been told by the estate agent that there’s a problem with my ID. Ironically I posted my up to date ID to DVLA the other week to get a photo ID (my old licence is just a paper one) and the Estate Agents say the person we are buying from is wanting a quick completion. I can hope my “proper” ID comes back from DVLA soon, or get myself a new Passport. However, as my wife’s ID Is OK , could she buy the house in just her name?? Your comments are all welcome. Thanks. Dave. (There is no mortgage)
 Share this content via...
HeHasRisen 3,371 #2 Posted August 12, 2021 I dont see why she couldnt buy it in just her name if you have the "cash" sat there waiting and she can pass the money laundering checks on her own. Obviously this leaves you in a legal position of not owning the house and something you will have to sort later on.
 Share this content via...
BigAl1 142 #3 Posted August 12, 2021 I would have thought the estate agent could give yo more help or failing this your solicitor - might be better than random starnger who may or may not know what they are talking about
 Share this content via...

The Estate agent is getting in touch with the legal team today on similar limes it might be quicker to just get a new Passport. I think you can get them in a couple of days but it means a trip to Liverpool.
 Share this content via...
HeHasRisen 3,371 #5 Posted August 12, 2021 I would suggest the cost and effort of getting both names on the house now would be cheaper than just your missus buying the house and then amending it afterwards.
 Share this content via...

pattricia 574 #7 Posted August 12, 2021 I read that there is a massive hold up of documents from the DVLA to customers.
 Share this content via...

gluedtopc 10 #9 Posted August 22, 2021 Thanks for all your replies. I have now got a Buss pass which has ID acceptable to the Estate Agents/Solicitors. It was free of charge and came in a week. God knows how long my Driving Licence is going to take.
 Share this content via...
