Shops Being Refurbished

Recommended Posts

Not only is Waitrose in the throes of works- and it has been for some weeks- but Tesco (Ecclesall Road) is closed all this week and onwards to about 6 August.

I guess that student holiday time is probably the best time for such works; but perhaps the shops might think to tell everyone in advance?

(What better way than for them to use the good offices of SF, come to that!)

The Tesco had a big display up in the window for at least a week beforehand. How else would you like notice to be served?

All regular customers would have known well in advance.

Great idea - perhaps SF could sell them a spot  as another pop-up? 😬

I imagine Jeffrey is more of a Waitrose man than a Tesco man, so probably goes to Tesco when he can't get what he needs from Waitrose

Back in the mid 1970’s the Ecclesall Road Tesco was our weekly shop venue, we thought it to be totally adequate, just shows haw things have changed.

Things really have changed.

I remember working on refurbishing the old Liptons in the Haymarket back in the late 50s as a self service shop.

It claimed to be the first in Sheffield.

A lot of the work was done during and after hours so I don't recall them closing. Inventory control was non existent, as staff and contractors purloined supplies from the basement, including cigarettes, liquor (Lemon Hart Rum) and cans of ham, steak and kidney pie,  and fruit.

Nobody went out for lunch. I guess they had a bit of a shock when they finally got around to taking stock.
