Yellow tram route frequency  reduced from every 12 minutes to every 15 minutes from Monday 26th July.

now there's a surprise

 

2 questions does that mean there will now be equally spaced intervals with the Blue trams from Castle Square to Hillsborough or will they continue to travel in convoy as often seemed to be happening and will the spacing take place with the train tram albeit  not quite even to take account of the need for it to stick to it's network rail path

Don't see the probably tbh. 

IMO 15min intervals between services is perfectly reasonable for any public transport service, buses included.

That depends on how accurate they keep their schedule and skills of the driver. These 15 minute intervals easily become 30 minutes with two buses or trams bumper to bumper.

The frequency required is based many factors. This is why most operators will run more frequent services in the rush hour and put on extra services to cope with the extra demand for things like festivals and football matches and the like.

 

The other factor is people are more likely to use a service the greater the frequency. There is masses of research on this subject although I would be surprised if Supertram have themselves carried out such research and simply base their decision on operating costs.

As of Monday afternoon I note that they have not bothered to post the new timetables on the tram stops as yet, not even those without dot matrix . If the “temporary “ blue timetables are anything to go by they are not going to be works of art just simple printing on nearest colour printer.

This is what is being offered

 

A discount of up to 25% will be applied to all adult TravelMaster tickets from 2 August – 27 September.

Calling all sixth formers I wonder if there is anyone out there who could have designed a better timetable than this which does not entail two trams following each other and a 13 minute wait for the next 2. 
 

there could be a job at Supertram if you can.

 

Clue the starting point must be the tram trains as these have no flexibility so the yellow ones need be organised around these and then the blues and finally the purples. Ideally you will leave the trams 5 minutes waiting time at Malin bridge, middlewood and halfway

The yellow route has to fit into conveniently within the TT route which has to fit within Northern Trains timetable and the blue route within the purple route. on top of that there are 4 reverses at cathedral you can't look at one route in isolation.

A couple of other considerations: 

Up to 21 more passenger and freight trains are pathed to use the single section between Tinsley North and Tinsley East junctions just beyond the M1 viaduct. 

The TT route trams are allowed to travel to and reverse at Shalesmoor and Spring Lane.

You need to use the Network Rail Working Timetable.

You would need to know the acceleration/deceleration properties of sections of track the trams and trains.

You would need to factor in extended dwell times in the City Centre at busy times.

Staff change overs will also increase dwell times.

Conflicting movements at the Delta.

NR Signalling properties.

etc.

Commercial software is extremely expensive to hire/lease/buy, that there are no good amateur version and that Excel is used by enthusiasts.  Using Excel is a poor substitute. Other programming tools are used for one -offs.

It is possible to use scrolls of time-distance graph paper
