Where To Buy Oak Sleepers In Sheffield?

Recommended Posts

Anyone know of a place to buy oak sleepers from in Sheffield please?

I need them 20cm x 10cm x 2.4m

Lots on Facebook but I would like a place I can visit to actually see them.

I've seen them at B/Q  and Wickes.

They all look the same to me..

Why would you like to see them.

So I know they aren't bent, warped twisted or cracked.

Plenty of tanalised softwood sleepers around, but I want oak.

I think the ones  Wickes and B&Q sell are tanalised Softwood. I believe someone near Retford sell Oak but can't remember the name , sorry.

Try Dods in Rotherham or Timber Warehouse in Kilnhurst. Both are good

if you want real oak be prepared to pay , timber merchants at the moment have massive price rises, we just quoted someone for 48m of oak 6x3 4m lengths just over 5k about £100 perm , Alan & orr chesterfield or Arnold lavers will be special order, dont know anyone that keeps stock.

buy good tanalised ones from timber specialists on herries road and once they weather down they look like old oak.

I believe it will last longer than tanalised soft wood.

Look on EBay, nearest seller is 10 miles away

Try railwaysleepers.com near Cotgrave, Notts

they have  thousands of new and used oak sleepers some from £20 odd pounds each they deliver and you can go and look

we bought several french oak sleepers some years ago and made a fireplace think it cost me about £50 and they cut them down to get in my estate

Try Hoyland dismatelers just out side Sheffield, there also on eBay. They have both oak and treated beams. Also good on price
