Car Repairs

Recommended Posts

hi ,  i've tried to find an existing thread about car repairs but was unable to do so .

my engine seems to be  red hot and a warning has come on twice (on different days) stating 'Engine Temperature Fault'  and to switch off

The temperature gauge goes straight in to the red .   but this doesn't happen every day,  and it's Not  low on water

From asking around it sounds like the fan isn't kicking in properly.  i'm quite deaf so i can't actually tell .

I can't risk taking it somewhere early in the morning to find that by 5pm they have either not even got round to looking at it,

or haven't got time to fix what needs doing .

Because of the nature of my job i cannot be without the car the day after i've made an arragement to drop it off

With this in mind  , does anyone know a reliable auto electrician  who will take the car,  diagnose and do whatever needs doing on the same day ?

many thanks.

Leaking head gaskets tend to let in water and the OP says it's not using any, so unlikely.

It would help if we knew the make/model, some are more prone to this than others.

Perhaps the advice you have had has excluded a fau;lty temp sensor?

possibly a faulty sensor .  had thought that .

it's a Peugeot 308 .  heard they are prone to related issues .

Some general info here    https://carleg.com/Step-by-step-to-resolve-overheating-of-Peugeot-308

Are you certain that it is over-heating rather than a mis-reading temp gauge due to faulty sensor.

Try a local garage and ask whether they can diagnose within time stated (unless you get some recommend from here).

thanks for the link , i'll have a look .

i was hoping for some Specific recommendations though ,  if anyone could suggest a good Reliable efficient place with timely service

That was what my original question was .

unfortunately,  it doesn't seem to matter if i ask a question on a Whatsapp group ,  facebook group,  or here ,

somehow i can't seem to communicate  in a way that gets a direct answer!

i'm not ungrateful for what anyone has said ,   it's just that like i mention ,  no  one has directly addressed my question

I have posted two bits from your original posts so we can take a clearer  look at the sitation.

Imagine someone knows a reliable auto electrican. The electrician may diagnose the cooling fan may need replacing.  He then may not  be able to get one until the next day.  So that does not fit your needs.

The electrician may find that the water pump needs replacing. He then informs you that he only does electrical  work not mechanical work. That also does not fit your needs.

I could go on with various scenarios.

What about booking your car in to a garage of good repute,  and take a few days holiday from work?  Or book your car in to the garage as above, and borrow a car from someone.

3rd option, if you book your car in to a main dealer (ouch) they may loan you a car for free over 2 days, they will have diagnostic equipment. They will also be able to repair your car.

Life is not always straight forward and does not always go the way we want it to.

Tower Garage at Huntingtower Rd, just off Ecclesall Rd at Banner Cross are worth using, never let me down and have always done what they say they will do, for a fair price

Where are you in the city?

Have you looked to see if there are any Peugeot specialists in the area?

I agree, but when we don't know the area you live (could be outside city), any recommends might not be conveniently situated for you, so people are drawn to offer opinions on the fault instead!

If its a Peugeot its probably the temperature sensor, they have a habit of failing after around ten years.

Another thing to look at is a blocked radiator. Again, ten year life span if coolant isn't changed regularly.

If you need someone to come to you and do a diagnostic and test the cooling fans, see here:
