Lots of towns are now adopting open air markets on the streets. Look at Wakefield and Rotherham. Both are thriving ( as is the old dilapidated and eyesore indoor market in Rotherham). It would not be competition as I doubt many if any of the old stallholders from Castle market moved to the new one as they served a completely different customer base. Look at the brilliant outdoor market in Leeds. Thriving and a people draw to the area. I reckon a good outdoor market in that area would give the whole area a major boost or do they not want common people in the area?

I do miss the old market. I got to know a few traders over time yes the market had its faults the building was a mess down too little or no repair work been carried out .Now the area is lifeless complete with derelict buildings like the Market Tavern also the old Court House both crying out for reuse but I can see them been reduced to rubble in the end.

Also the White Rose in Leeds is nicer than Meadowhall IMO, I've been a couple of times, although the last time I went with a carer, we got on a Bus from Leeds Train Station, told the driver we wanted the White Rose, ended up in Pudsey!

Somebody thought the same as you and has purchased it for renovation, partly as a hotel I think.

I thought this end of the city centre was going to be some sort of 'Historic quarter,' with the Sheffield Castle site being brought back to life in some way and the Lady's Bridge area 'greened'

 

The whole area from Lady's Bridge up to Fitzalan Square is ripe for redevelopment and could easily embrace the attractive old court house and Post Office building. If retail is in decline then this is an ideal opportunity to reinvent the area as a city centre destination based around the castle.

Prefer this on the move development of sheffield over cities that haven't changed much for years.

Full monty starts with "Sheffield a city on the move" and they were not joking about this it moves continuously.

Also, I've only ever been inside once (and no, not in its official capacity) but Snig Hill Cop shop is in need of doing up IMO, it's been pretty much the same for Donkey's years.

Brutalist architecture I quite like it same as the courthouse

Yep some new tiles bit of paint jobs a gooden. This is a classic exampleof how sheffield labour council wasted money on projects we didn't need
