60% Of The Amazon Rain Forest Will Be Gone By 2050 But We Still Demand More

Recommended Posts

Yeah and to think that those  few northern first world countries are responsible for about 80 plus percent of the greenhouses gases bringing this about .

But 60% of sub-Saharan Africa are under 25 years old.

As a white, European, I wouldn't fancy having to tell them to have fewer children.  It would smack of imperiaIism & Empire.  I think I'd have my suggestion thrown back in my face.  Similarly, I can't see any of our politicians doing it either but something has to give at some point, especially if, as predicted the world warms up to such an extent that Africa will become uninhabitable as will much of southern Europe, so there will be more & more people moving to a more suitable & habitable northern Europe & places like Canada.

Imagine a world population of 10 billion+, condensed into a much smaller mass?

No-one has to tell anyone else what to do, birth rates are naturally falling, and as the climate gets less hospitable for humans the birth rate will fall further. There are some misconceptions (no pun intended) about the fertility rates in some countries, for example the rate in Bangladesh is similar to that in the UK. Loads of Europe and East and South East Asia has a fertility rate of less than 2 children per woman, which means a declining population.

"In its 2019 revision of the World Population Prospects (WPP), the United Nations projected that the world's population would grow from 7.7 billion in 2019 to reach 8.5 billion in 2030, 9.7 billion in 2050 and 10.9 billion in 2100."

I would have posted the full report but its a pdf.

While some countries populations fertility rates are reducing (but even a reduced fertility rate still means more people & people are living longer & still have to be fed & watered), unless they have a negative rate, whereby they have more death than births, people are still contributing to an ever increasing world population overall.   As the UN predicts, another 2 billion mouths to fed in just over 30 years (2019 - 2050).

A few years ago a controversial US comic made jokes about his right to drive a petrol spewing 4x4 pickup truck whilst simultaneously clubbing a few dolphins and drinking from a single use plastic cup free from the judgey glaring disapproval of some environmentalist, vegan, cycle-natzi parent.

the punchline...  his actions would do a fraction of damage to the environment compared to their  breeding a child.

Many a true word said in jest and all that....

Regarding the Amazon, why doesn't another government send special forces into Brazil and just assassinate Bolsonaro? It would be to the benefit of the whole world, both in terms of climate change and Covid.

The Amazon needs more protection in fact forests anywhere in the world need it.  But the problem is countries like Brazil people don't have an welfare system to fall back on when things get hard it's an case of work to eat. Corruption is common in Latin American governments and unlikely to change anytime soon nor are the poverty levels going to get better it's catch 22 save the Amazon we need for oxygen or watch as people slide further into proverty?

We haven't had a climate change denier for a while. Are you also denying that the number or birdlife in this country has dropped by 11% in the last 50 years because you've seen a few pigeons?

Relax.  You're forgetting the "More than 900 million chickens  slaughtered to be eaten in the UK each year".
