RollingJ 1,907 #13 Posted April 28, 2021 Wonder if those they were disturbing, wherever they were, reported anti-social (and probably illegal) behaviour, causing the police to remove them back to their own farmyard?
 Share this content via...
the_bloke 17 #14 Posted April 28, 2021 Apparently it's for the funeral of one of the people who died on the M1 a few weeks ago (no other cars involved). Obviously the best way to respect someone who died in a car crash is to drive through the city in a manner that will cause another one. Thanks for that information - so it (in this case) was a one-off for a valid reason - and controlled?
 Share this content via...
MediumDave 10 #16 Posted April 28, 2021 There was a similar scene on the Halifax/ Chaucer Rd junction at Foxhill about 20 minutes ago. Dozens of cars & quads turning right into Chaucer Rd, going both sides of the island, wrong side of road etc. No police in evidence but traffic lights held apparently. A neighbour seemed to think it was for the M1 crash too but they might just have their wires crossed. If they've gone from Hollinsend to Foxhill driving like that it's a bloody miracle there wasn't another fatality!
 Share this content via...
carosio 176 #17 Posted April 28, 2021 Saw something similar other year on Greenland Road, a procession of Harley riders heading towards P.o.W. Road. Some actuall y blocked the Staniforth Rd junction to allow the bikes through the red lights!
 Share this content via...

There was a light aircraft circling over Wadsley Bridge at the same time, could be related to this ?
 Share this content via...

A lot of vehicles, probably many more than my initial estimate. Followed by 2 police on bikes! Also, the lights seemed to be on green for them for over 2 minutes (actually, at least 3 minutes and 42 seconds), so maybe the police are already aware of them and are actually escorting them? Too much excitement for one day! I've submitted a report, but feel maybe it's a waste of time. It's mad isn't it. During the height of covid the police raided funerals and fined grieving families if there was more than the small number of allowed people, yet when the so called gypsy king of Sheffield died, literally hundreds of people attended the funeral and hundreds rode down in convey blocking roads with quads and bikes and 4x4's,revving the life out of the machines. And what did the police do despite phone calls from worried residents? Nothing. absolutely zilch. Makes me sick knowing part of my council tax is going to SYP. Pragmatically speaking, the police can do nothing. It's easy enough for the police to enforce the rules, and fine regular motorists for the most minor traffic infringement; that's an easy cash cow. However, for a gang of reckless morons who show no regard for the law, the rules of the road or courtesy for other motorists; the police will do nothing. Hell, they'll even escort them and the authorities will make sure the lights are on green (for almost 4 minutes, that's not normal) to expedite their passage. Think about it, can you imagine the police stopping a gang of perhaps a 100 vehicles behaving in this manner and enforcing the same laws we all have to obey? It would be utter chaos! It very much seems to me that the police are impotent.
 Share this content via...
