Shame it looks like its not going ahead.

It would have been the best thing to happen to english football since winning the world cup,the self annointed big 6,who arent even in the top 6 of english football and dont look like changing that, and have brought us the premier league and greed, higher prices for everything from shirts to ticket prices to transfer fees and wages at every level of english football.

They  force through policy and have way too much influence over league decisions and have turned english football into an F1 like procession rather than the competitive struggle it was  always meant to be, football shouldnt be about financial muscle and altering every rule to make sure your the best and allow you to steal from the poor for a pittance, when the lesser clubs put all the effort and time into development of players.

I really hope they go through with their plan and leave english football to put right their wrongs, theyve ruined the game in every shape and form for the rest of the countrys clubs, hopefully the TV watchers will vote the same way and after the novelty wears off they end up playing at Ferrybridge United infront of 200 people on a cold saturday in january.

Completely agree, I really hoped it would of happened. Perez has said they have binding contracts though so it will happen in some form, according to him anyway. We'll see if anything happens in the coming weeks.

I was reminded by someone yesterday that around 12 months ago, both Liverpool & Spurs faced a backlash from their fans when they hinted that they were going to use the Govt's furlough scheme to pay their non-playing staff, despite how rich the clubs supposedly are & the fact the they have billionaire owners.  In the end, due to the backlash, they didn't take part in the scheme.

Neither did Arsenal but days after laying off 55 non-playing staff, blaming COVID for a downturn in finances, they took on Willian in a 3 year contract, paying him £10 million a season.

The breakaway 6 HAVE to be penalised with a hefty points deduction rather than fines. Money's nothing to clubs that size, but start them all 20 points behind the rest and we might see some serious fun.

That would be nice but which rule have they broken?

According to many, it is Rule L9.  The Sun article explains it here:

https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/14699023/premier-league-rule-european-super-league-ban/

The problem now is what sanctions can the PL inflict on the "Big 6" that will not affect the innocent fans and players of these clubs, as discussed here:

https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11661/12282315/european-super-league-other-14-premier-league-clubs-divided-on-big-six-punishments

This contains an interesting clip that shows a different problem - that the "Big 6" are influential members of major PL committees:

"Executives from the breakaway clubs who sit on key Premier League committees include Bruce Buck of Chelsea and Ed Woodward of Manchester United."

Perhaps the other 14 PL members will change this, and perhaps also the "Balance of Power" in the PL, that favours the Big 6.  If not, maybe the Government will get involved, or maybe it will be kicked into the long grass until the row has cooled down.  A Government Enquiry perhaps?

The 'Big 6' have been financially 'punished'... Hmmm?

Ridiculous!  Not even a slap on the wrist - hardly a tap.  I wonder what they will call it when they next decide to break away, after better PR and better legal advice? EPL2?

The argument that any sanctions would hurt the fans and the players never washed for me.  The Big 6 have been able to get what they wanted, depriving the other clubs of their best players for years, winning most of the silverware in the process.  Their supporters have had the good days, so why not relegate the big 6 to League 2 and refuse them entry into the FA Cup for 5 years each.  Let them fight in the lower leagues for promotion for a while, deprived of Sky money for televised matches.  The true supporters would keep turning up, providing great gates for the other clubs as they fought their way back.  Like Rangers in Scotland, they'd probably get back eventually, but at least Rangers were punished properly!

Oh dear, how sad, never mind.  Good to see one of the 'Big 6', (Chelsea), lose out on the FA Cup.

Cracking Leicester goal.

Wasn't a European Super League the dream of AC Milan owner Silvio Berlusconi, back in the 1990s?

St Berlusconi wanted his all-conquering Milan team to be playing and beating all of Europe's top teams on a regular basis.

I thought he got his wish with the European Champions League, before he ran for Prime Minister, then got done for tax-fraud and soliciting minors for sex, and held those bunga bunga parties.

Here it comes again with the same grubby outfit behind it that backed the closed shop model of the last bid.

This isn't going to go away. Once football became attractive to the billionaires and entreprenreurs it was inevitable.

It's just a business to them, and in business if you can reduce risk and increase profit you've got it made. The American NFL is the blueprint. No promotion, no relegation, no risk. Just a money churning asset.

Finish bottom? Don't worry, you are still in the league and you get first pick of the draft in order to make it a bit more competitive.

A European League with the top 'glamour ' clubs from European countries which are followed internationally by people who've never set foot in their home ground is the way to go.

The rest of the clubs left behind will be used as development clubs for the Super League, they will pick and choose which players they are interested in and money will talk.

The game as us old guys remember it is over.
