willman   10 #37 Posted April 20, 2021 Let them go and form the league, then UEFA and FIFA and the FA should enforce the rules currently in place. They were happy to ban all Ennglish teams when it suited their policies, English football only went from strength to stregth on the back of it. The PL is now the chosen destination of many players - attracted by vast wealth and competitive football. They can get vast wealth in China or elsewhere but the footballing standard is currently crap.
 Share this content via...

Be serious Arsenal pulling out too by the looks of it, ed Woodward resigning from MUFC. Noticeable that the American-owned contingent have stayed quiet. It looks dead now - you were right, but it will come around again. I have to say I'm surprised how quick it's all falling apart. Sending Perez out to bat to the media wasn't a wise move though. Baron99   795 #41 Posted April 20, 2021 (edited) When you look at the amount of current debt, (with the exception of Chelsea on a small profit), each of the 12 breakaway clubs are carrying, you can see why they were looking for a way to boost their finances. £2.3 billion in debt between them.  https://www.mirror.co.uk/money/clubs-signed-up-super-league-23947264  But at the end of the day, a who's fault is that? And if they had broken away, what would happen eventually to the new money? Of course, it'd go to pay higher players' salaries & inflated agents' fees.  Edited April 20, 2021 by Baron99
 Share this content via...
Guest sibon   #42 Posted April 20, 2021 Looks like the ESL might just have saved football after all. It’s taken just 24 hours for supporter power to force some of the richest men in the world into a humiliating climb down.  I’d still like to see the six English clubs chucked out of the Premier League, but sadly, Carlsberg sponsor Liverpool. Delbow   700 #43 Posted April 20, 2021 Someone pointed out elsewhere that the first two to pull out - Chelsea and Man City - didn't need the Super League money because they are bankrolled by some of the world's richest and most despicable people, so it's probably got very little to do with principles. Baron99   795 #45 Posted April 20, 2021 I've just caught a bit of Talk Sport on the radio. They've just mentioned that the 12 clubs also. all voted in favour for UEFA's plan to expand the Champions League to 36 clubs.  Obviously thought that they could make more money by the additional revenue from that tournament as well with the extended format?  Nobody has mention the old moan of playing too many games?
 Share this content via...

Guest   #47 Posted April 21, 2021 https://news.sky.com/story/european-super-league-all-six-english-teams-pull-out-12281597  It was never likely to go ahead- especially with some managers against it and fans.
 Share this content via...
