AndreaS74 0 #1 Posted March 28, 2021 Hi My great uncle, Frank Osborne died aged 22 when a German U-Boat torpedoed HMS Barham on 25th November 1941. As it is 80 years this year, I was wondering if there was a way of finding out how many of the men were from Sheffield....? Any info/advice is much appreciated. Jim Hardie 527 #3 Posted March 28, 2021 Can’t answer your question but there are a few items on YouTube. It was the only British battleship to be sunk at sea by a u boat in WW2.
 Share this content via...

I've contacted them but no response. They also have a website with a full crew list but its doesn't say where each of the men came from. I would like to find out as I would like to arrange some sort of memorial regardless of how small but time is of the essence. 2 hours ago, Jim Hardie said: Can’t answer your question but there are a few items on YouTube. Rollypolly 51 #5 Posted March 28, 2021 Have you tried the National Archives? Also years ago I was trying to find details of someone who died on board during WW2. I eventually found the information on a forces memorial website. Unfortunately I can't remember what it was called but I think it might be based at Bournemouth or Plymouth. Rollypolly 51 #7 Posted March 29, 2021 I've remembered the site I used. It was commonwealth war graves. It lists Frank Osbourne, service no. D/JX176692 Died 25 Nov 1941 age 22. Commemorated at Plymouth Naval Memorial. Panel 48 column 1. Hope this helps in your search.
 Share this content via...
