Recommended Posts

in tonights star ,it seems SCC have agreed to build a new football ground at the transport ground meadowhead, seems a good idea, although we may have to relocate our gigantic bonfire, dont know the whole story, but it seems a good idea, but traffic  could be a problem at the island, what do others think about it.?

How much extra traffic is it going to generate? Last time I refereed up there (about 15 years ago, Sunday morning)  there must have been all of a dozen cars parked there.

So no reputable source?

Looking at the maps, I highly doubt there would be enough space for a stadium and associated car parking.

it is subject to planning permission, there were going to build a tesco a few years ago,but sheffield fc want to be in sheffield so they can open a heritage centre and stadium on one site and this is ideal, they have SCC go ahead and agreed to let the cricket section stay on site, they wanted to be at olive grove, but that fell through,so it seems like its meadowhead now.

Sheffield FC average crowd this season so far is 284.

(scroll down to Step 4 Division One - no. 17)

Doesn't look like that'll mean a great deal of extra traffic - I remember going to Donny Rovers in the bad old days (season they lost league status back in 97/98) and crowds of about 2,000 hardly made any difference to the traffic on Bawtry Road or at  the racecourse roundabout - the Dome leisure centre and Asda  almost next door to the old Belle Vue  ground generated far more traffic.

Wasn't there supposed to be a Park and Ride facility on or about there?

With a return to Sheffield the club would expect crowds to increase. Even if they remain the same the car parks at the front and rear are usually full and the overspill parks a fair old distance up Bowshaw.   Sheffield FC are doing very well this season and may well be promoted which again should lead to higher crowds.  I think local residents will be definitely affected by parking problems on match days and nights.

Looking at an aerial pic of that area  there appears to  be a deal of fields  south of Bochum Parkway that could be used rather than see another local sports ground disappear from use of amateur  clubs.

the land there and the one that was sports opp jordanthorpe are all on the derbyshire side of the boarder,so that wouldnt intrest them, they need to be in sheffield as they want a new ground ,plus a heritage centre for visitors as it was the first football club, they will also need parking,so they need space for just not football supporter, but they have visions of day trips from all over england and beyond, although they dont have copys of the original rules as they sold they they will have a copy and lots more for a centre, plus they want to play there other 3 teams at home as well,as they now have to play at graves

Since the land is owned by SYPTE you'd have thought that by now, when traffic congestion is at an all time high they would have proposed to build a park and ride site here, or even proposed to extend the tram from Herdings Park down Bochum Parkway to Meadowhead...
