That's o.k. Fleetwood, and as for my user-name apart from a 'typo', should be st petre, which shows that I was born less than a million miles away from Grimesthorpe. I would like in inquire as to the remaining 'watering holes' left in that area. If the 'Ball' Upwell Street is still there, where would the nearest ones be? Wincobank, Carbrook the Ellesmere/Burngreave area, or as I look on a map directly westward (no more Firth Park Hotel), would it be Manchester? yes THAT place that is somewhere between Stockport and Oldham.

The Ball on Upwell St sold - Stones---- Sheffield Arms now closed.

The Beehive sold---- John Smiths --- Bowling Green sold Tetley.

The Vic on carlisle rd sold Stones.--- The Prince on Addsett st Magnet i think ?

Wellington i'am not sure ?--- The Hodson sold Stones or Magnet.

I feel Drunk now.

Hi Brian and everyone,

I can't throw much light on which ''watering holes'' are still operating in the area or which brews the lost ones sold. Although I lived in Grimesthorpe from birth in 1943 to age 14, my family then moved to Shiregreen. I still look around the old places when I go down to Sheffield. Seems like a big part of my life. It's where ''it all started''.

Here's a watering hole that still exists, snapped by me around 2013 :) :-

It looked in the same condition a few weeks ago as in my photo a couple of years ago. The spout is still there around the other side. Seems it needs a local community group to adopt it, after all it's been there since 1836. Can't see the Council maintaining it now.

Maybe the Chapel will consider it??

Peter.

Was there ever a 'Ward's' pub in Grimesthorpe , nearest was, I think the old Midland-Alfred Road- but that's not really that area.

Tea Gardens on Grimesthorpe rd and The Crown inn on Harleston st were both Wards houses and they came under Grimesthorpe many years ago.

I was born 600 yards from the Crown Inn and neither that nor the Tea Gardens were in Grimesthorpe, the Burngreave/Ellesmere part of Pitsmoor yes.

Hi Brian,

I have noticed some of my the other personal photobucket pics can be seen underneath the water pump pic. by scrolling. Also by clicking the arrow all the rest can be seen. I don't know why this happens sometimes and not others. However, there is nothing on there that I mind people seeing.

Thanks for pointing this out.

Peter.
