Tracienanof7   0 #1 Posted January 23, 2021 I had the pleasure of looking after this fine lady but sadly she passed away peacefully on Xmas day aged 101 yrs old i know she spoke very fondly of the chip shop she ran with her husband many yrs ago at woodseats does anyone have any fond memories of this beautiful lady and her famous chippy
 Share this content via...
Dreb48   35 #2 Posted January 23, 2021 When I moved to the area in the late 60s Hawksworths had the chip shop opposite the Big Tree. Ferguson’s had the one further along  that’s now Woodseats Fisheries. Their son ‘ big Dave ‘ worked there with his mum and dad before taking one of his own at the bottom of Broxholme  that’s now Canton Wok. Can place her husband but not Francis unfortunately
 Share this content via...
hillsbro   32 #3 Posted January 23, 2021 (edited) There is a 1981 photo of the chippy on the "picturesheffield" site - here is a link: https://www.picturesheffield.com/frontend.php?keywords=Ref_No_increment;EQUALS;u06598&pos=49&action=zoom&id=99238 I did a little more online research - Frances' husband's name was Donald and it seems he also lived to a good age; he died aged 94 in May 2006. R.I.P Frances and Donald. Edited January 23, 2021 by hillsbro spelling, spacing etc.
 Share this content via...
IRONMONGER   10 #4 Posted January 23, 2021 (edited) When my family lived at Dronfield Woodhouse in the sixties if ever we fancied fish and chips we would head for Ferguson’s as theirs were the best. sedith   19 #5 Posted January 23, 2021 I fondly remember 'Fergies' simply the best chip shop around back in the day. RIP
 Share this content via...
RogerBillam   0 #6 Posted January 25, 2021 I lived in Olivet Road, it was the best fish and chips in Woodseats, always packed out, they knew all of their customers, I am glad she lived to a ripe old age. It must be something about Woodseats, an old friend of mines' father passed recently, he was over 100 years old.
 Share this content via...
