Everton V Sheffield Wednesday Fa Cup

Recommended Posts

My opinion from that.... 3-0 to a more clinical, very talented, Premier League team. But listen Wednesday gave a decent enough account of themselves.

What do I think about Wednesday? What stood out?...for me, bannan has to go if you want to transition. He's slow, he's negative, he's taking the spark out of the team. He slows down the tempo in an otherwise pacey, attacking minded team.

Ahh well...

I took the dog out when we went 1-0 down. Missed half-time, and by the time I got back it was 3.

Watched from then on, and commented to my wife that it resembled a game of 'walking football' for old 'uns!

I'd get shut of Brown before Bannan. Slow to react, absolutely rubbish when he did.

The whole team were outclassed.

Thought we did well for the 1st half hour or so,contained what was a very strong side, and had a couple of half decent long range efforts, not bad considering we were the ones fielding a weakend side, wityh youngster Brennan and Galvin and Andre Greene newly signed possibly not yet upto match sharpness.

Borner lost his man for the goal, once he realised it was too late and the ball was already on its way into the goal.

We offered little in the 2nd period, but to get done twice in a matter of minutes from two corners showed a lack of discipline and  experience.

Only the wildest of dreamers would have given a very poor quality Owls side any chance of getting a result from this game, especially once the team sheets were announced, besides Wednesday have more pressing games comming up in the next weeks, but you cant escape the drop in quality from the side under CC to the side that takes the field these days. The likes of Loovens,Hunt,Pudil,Sasso,Lee,Wallace,Hutchinson,Joao,Hooper,FF,Mathias,Fletcher have all left and not replaced or matched in quality, the chance to move players along and bring in funds to re invest was never taken.

Hearing this week Wednesday have joined the race to sign Harry Pickering,if true this is hopefully is a sign the club is at last treading the right path, hopefully its not too late to put right the mistakes made over the last 4 seasons, but thats an encouraging sign if its true.

Nice summing up, but I thought Pelupessy was at least equally to blame for the first. He should have got a block in. Brown was awful when he came on and he says he wants to stay!

Well got what was expected. Nice for confidence to go through but we haven't the squad to cope with extra games so not too fussed about going out.

Brown must be very low on confidence. He's quality, but his head needs sorting. Green looked like a coiled spring. Some good stuff from him, albeit only for 5 seconds rather than more involvement. We did ok with a mixed team. Uroghide did pretty well. Penney came on too late. Bannan needs to ban himself from passing 2 metre passes, square passes, and especially 30 metre back passes. He needs re-programming to pass forwards 90% of the time. His long passing is superb. When did we last score from a corner? Lees. How many do we score from corners? Very few. We concede loads. I like Börner. We need the Kevin Keegan approach, up and at 'em. Nuhiu or Paterson? Come back Atdhe! Shaw and Penney should get more playing time. Other young 'uns on the fringe look ready as well.

I think a game such of this, isn't a fair or true opportunity to assess match fitness. Ancellotti has his side well drilled and he likes them to play a very high tempo game of football. It was always going to be a difficult task, but as said above and I agree...I think in the earlier stages of the game, you lot managed to deal with everything that was thrown at you.

Everton upped the tempo and in the end I think it was more a case of being simple overwhelmed by a decent football team. There is no shame in it whatsoever, we are after all talking about an 'x' amount of millions gulf in class.

I maintain what I said about Bannan however, Ian i do get why a player of his experience would be in the line up against Everton. But when you have Harris in particular and the likes of Patterson and reach, trying to be attacking and positive. You then had Bannan taking the sting out of your own play going forwards.

I think that the blooding in of the youth is a representation of where the club is at right now. I think you guys know yourself, there are contractual issues with certain players who won't be featuring because of fees, bonuses and clauses. Mr Chansiri is fielding a cheaper team in my own opinion, but....you appear to be finding some gems to invest in.
